Is that a reliable engine historically?
Seriously? You’ll have maintenance things and components start to wear out after 13 years but the drivetrain is bulletproof

Honest answer... They gave a shite when building it

Do it.
I have a 2019 with 35k miles with the 5.7 that I will drive until it goes to the salvage yard. Just like my 05 Z71 that I bought brand new.

I have 168k on my 2016 Tundra 5.7. I sometimes get the urge to shop for a new truck but I won’t part with the Tundra.

Gave the youngest son my 2010 with a 5.7. Thing still purring like the day I brought it home. Loving my 3.0 Babymax but would’ve bought another Yota if they still put that engine in them.

Do it. Their 5.7s are legit. Got 124k on mine and still running like a top.

I had a 2016 that I sold to my son. I know I taught him and hammered maintenance, and I have no idea if he did it as religiously as I preached. This past year his 5.7 shite the bed. IDK what happened, but it is the only one I ever heard of having a catastrophic issue. When he started shopping around, It was very hard to find engines, just because they are so bullet proof. Ended up 10k for a replacement, but he figured he could pay to have a newer engine (65K miles) put in the truck and drive the wheels off of it.
As far as what makes the 5.7 so good? I heard when Toyota went to the larger 5.7 over their smaller V8......they paid Chevy for information on their old 350 CUI (5.7) and used that as a template for what they were building. Makes sense. Old Chevy 350 has been around for decades and such a good motor. I'll never understand why they went to that oil burning pos of a 5.3 liter.

On my fourth Tundra.
This one is a 2013 Crewmax 5.7 V8.
I'm up to 125K miles now.
Keeping this one forever.
