I am considering a 2012/2013 Hobie Outback but that seat does not look comfortable. Are there viable alternatives out there that I can use? I saw a video using an old Jackson seat but that particular seat is no longer sold. I would prefer something that sits off the kayak. Thanks.

Mine is a 2014, last year before they added the Vantage seats as stock.

I retrofitted mine. I bought this Browning turkey hunting chair off of Amazon for $35: Browning hunting chair

It drops right in, perfect fit, no cutting or mods needed. Back legs go in the storage well. I just added a couple pad-eyes, then strapped it in so it doesn't move at all. My 225# self regularly spends 8 hours at a time in my Outback and this was a game changer.

Put the same chair in an older WS Ride 135 I picked up cheap, too.

There's a guy in the Lafayette Kayak club who I think put a Jackson seat in his. If you go to the website and ask I'm sure he'll respond. He's on there often. I remember talking to him about it in Cocodrie at the tournament.

+1 on the browning turkey chair. Buy it and don’t look back. It’s perfect for the 2012 Outback.

That must be Luke(coolhand on the Lkfc forum). I believe he has one of the current Jackson seats on his Outback. I know he had Pack and Paddle order it but not certain what he paid.

How's the stability with the turkey chair? Considering grabbing one of these to try, I also have an older outback.

I have seen several places where guys used this chair but it makes me nervous being that it is so high and I don't think I want to make any adjustments to lower it. I sometimes fish in rough water and want to do some semi offshore (near beach) fishing at some point.

The Outback with the turkey chair remains very stable. I fish the trestles, caminada pass, and off the beach from Elmer's Island pretty often. I have never flipped, and the boat is perfectly stable. I can stand and fish at 6/4" 225# in it, so sitting 6" higher than normal isn't an issue.

Only time I put the original seat back in is when I go offshore from the beach in Florida, but I overdo everything on those trips safety-wise.
