That’s what I hear. I guess it’s a lot of folks from Dallas metropolitan area that hunt there? Nacogdoches is what, 2.5 hrs from Dallas?

We’re blessed to be in such a good spot. TBH, I likely couldn’t afford to hunt this place if it wasn’t passed down to my brothers and I. Or I damn sure wouldn’t pay the amount of $ these guys pay to hunt this area.

Not that I know of. Almost everybody from around here hunts, mostly small family owned land.

Most Dallas folks try to go south or southwest in my experience.

Lot of these good ol boys around here don’t have a strict definition of season and legal shooting hours, so if I didn’t own it I definitely wouldn’t lease around here.

43 deer is crazy! It’s a great day if I see 3 or 4. Which is indicative of my point above. i haven’t seen one damn deer all day today; except for on the road leaving to get lunch

You guys seeing big numbers... is it prime location or are y’all doing lots of property management?

Is luck one of my options?

I posted this a few weeks ago, but the land owner came in and thinned out everything. 10 yard wide strips through 50% of the property. A lot more browse available. Took 2 years and numbers are WAY up.

The other 50% is a 6 year old cutover that's now about 12 ft tall all over.

Its just worked out nicely.

Definitely NOT prime location. But about 20 years of arguing over what to and not to shoot seems to be paying off.

Yeah I think thick underbrush is part of my problem. We used to run cows, but we sold off and let everything go about 15 years ago. We still have a few pastures we cut for hay, but the rest is brambles and briars and yaupon and nasty stuff I can’t get through.

I need to get some strategic bushhogging done, cause I know they’re in there somewhere.

Hell anything from Palmyra (outside of Talullah) to Vidalia, is prime area. Hope you get a nice one baw. You definitely have choices there.

Prime location and the way we’ve managed it. It’s just my brothers and I that hunt 871 acres.

My great grandfather sold his rice farms in Elton back in the 1920’s and bought around 3700 acres just north of Waterproof for soybean, cotton farming. In the 80’s the family sold over half of that, then my uncle sold his share. My day kept his portion and swore to never sell and he didn’t and passed to my 2 brothers and I. My brothers and I will never sell it. I probably couldn’t afford to hunt this place if I had to pay. The prices people are paying for a membership in this area is insane and I’m not talking $10-15k either.

Dad started managing our place when I was a young kid in the 80’s. We’ve always had a bunch of deer and big ones but the doe population has got out of hand several times. We’ll probably have to bring DMAP in to get it under control. The buck to doe ratio is getting bad. I guarantee you my brothers and I could shoot 12+ does and it would barely make a dent.
