I recall someone on here having a Colt DE and using it for hog hunting but I can't recall the poster? Bapple maybe?

I believe that's King Ranch. He has two Deltas and is quite a fan of the gun. Even carries one of them sometimes.

why the FBI abandoned it after developing it.

The more interesting story is why they developed it in the first place.

The 1986 shootout with Mattix and Platt in Florida is the reason the FBI went to the 10mm for more stopping power. The reality is that they were outgunned because they weren't prepared and were poor shots.

They rationalized that they needed more stopping power. If I recall correctly, one agent was banging a diner waitress while his buddies were getting shot up. Only one agent was wearing a vest. The others had them riding on their car seats or in their trunks.
True enough, there was at least one agent who was shooting a snub .38. But mostly, the whole "needing bigger guns" thing was a ruse to cover up a very embarrassing example of poor training and tactics.

Wiki on the shootout

I think cops only hit with around 10% of shots. IMHO, the training they do is pretty subpar for the job they do
