Big difference between shooting small bucks because if you don't someone else will, and shooting a small buck because that's the best you can expect to get.

Couldn't agree more.....I also think that "the hunter" should be a strong deciding factor in deciding what is being shot......12 year old baby girl can shoot anything and everything she wants! We can teach her selection later...but it's critical for her to enjoy the hunt now before she looses interest.

Now T-Bob, that has killed 7 deer this year, and averages 5 a year.....obviously shouldn't be on the same shooting preferences as " baby girl" but unfortunately some people think otherwise.

Just got busted by a big bodied deer. Bastard came in down wind of me in some thick cover and never got to put cross hairs on anything more than a bouncing white tail

Trust me the thought crossed my mind to groun check and be outta here before the rain starts.

Just had a small otter come by me headed to higher ground

ETA: Don't think it was an otter. More likely a Mink

otters moving o higher ground.....ya better start packing your shite up!

Don't do what I would do and roll up my extra pair of socks, tuck them under my chin to stop the sleeping head bob, fall asleep to the gentle sound of rain on my strap on tree umbrella, just to wake up 2 hours later surrounded by water!

If I had a box stand I would camp out here all day.

Now that I think about it. If I would have kept that owl I found on that trot line yesterday and got that mink I'd have an interesting gumbo for this evenings supper

Went this morning duck/deer hunt. Sat up in the midle of a bottom in about 3' of water. Well, the woodies came in. Made my 3 shots and that hunt was over. As I started to pick up my ducks, I hear something on the ridge. Dropped a few 31/2 00 in. Sure as shite, 2 big arse hogs came walking across about 40 yards. Got one good shot off and rolled the second one. Things went to shite from there. For two hours I looked for that sucker and couldn't find it. After I got home, I was total wiped out and jumped in the tub, then bed. Just getting up for the second time today. That heat kicked my arse big time.

On a side note. Had a great time going rooting in the mud and water with my jeep.

If it wasn't rainning, as tired as I am, and as bad as I hate evening hunts, I would go.

I'm still draging arse big time.

Good luck guys. My daughter is hunting this afternoon.

Results Post:

Chauvin, LA; Ladder stand
Upper 70s; 10 mph SSW
30-30

Was killing some time reading this IST around 7 am, heard something in the woods to my right. Put my phone down and picked up my gun after seeing this girl walking by.

She was passing on a trail about 50 yards from my stand. Only possible shot was in a 10ft clearcut, so I aimed my gun and let her walk into the crosshairs.

She ran maybe 75 yards after the shot. Got her good. She's my first deer, so I was/am still pumped. It's an amazing feeling.

Don't want to get religious, but I said a quick prayer thanking the good Lord for blessing me this morning.
