My draft:
Loaded mags for my FAL.
Windshirt.
First aid kit from cheaper than dirt, with extra gauze and athletic tape.
6' of baling wire.
Electrical tape (good for lots of stuff).
Multi-tool.
Pocket knife that uses utility blades.
Utility blades.
Small flashlight.
Soup in a can; the kind with a pop top. I prefer bean soup, but whatever.
Bottled water of course.
20' of light rope.

I would substitute Duct tape for the electrical tape.
Anyone worried about keeping loaded mags in storage for extended preiods? No worries about fatique of the spring?

I've read about this a bunch and come to the conclusion that unless it's a really shitty mag it won't ever happen. You can't fatigue a spring unless you compress or stretch it past the point the range it's made to be used in. A fully loaded magazine doesn't do this (if it did the mag spring would wear out just from normal use) so it won't wear out from staying loaded. I remember reading about mags tat had been loaded since like WWII and shot fine.

For drinking water, check this product out.
LINK
My father in law just bought one for everyone in the family. He is sort of a prepper I suppose.

I just started working on my BOB. Your list looks great
I would only add some cheap/plastic eating utensils.
It's hard to eat a lot of freeze dried foods or MRE's with only a knife.

Also:
Dryer lint.
I haven't done this, but outdoor matched with the heads dipped in wax. Keeps them dry and makes a good flame.
Cotton balls dipped in wax. Keeps the cotton dry and makes a good fire.
A small bottle of lighter fluid.
Liquid soap.
Medium-sized vice grips to suppliment your multi-tool.
A bayonet. Good for the big jobs and cheaper than a Bowie knife.
Hatchet.
A small, fine file for your hatchet, bayonet, ect. Would be good for trading too. "I'll sharpen your tools in exchange for batteries, venison, pussy, ect."

My Bag:
I have changed a few items since these pictures. I also added change of clothes and some easy to eat bars. This does not include my firearm.
I just want something to bet me from A->B if I breakdown or just in a bind.
