His wife was passed over for the women’s team despite being reigning Slovenian road race and TT champion for the coach’s mistress. Pog acknowledged this informed his decision to sit the Olympics out.
Thanks...the initial reports said he was tired. I didn't know things were that shady. I found this:
msn.com
On Monday the Slovenian Olympic Committee said in a statement that Pogacar had not been selected because of fatigue, less than 24 hours after he had won his third Tour title in Nice. However, Pogacar flew to the Netherlands to compete in a criterium race on Tuesday evening.
Speaking before that race, the 25-year-old said of Zigart’s non-selection: “It’s not the main reason, but for sure it didn’t help. I think she deserves her spot. She’s the double national champion in road race and time trial.”
Zigart is her nation’s highest-ranked rider and Pogacar has long been a highly visible presence in support of her career in the women’s peloton. “She’s the only woman cyclist in Slovenia that ever achieved top 10 in week-long World Tour races,” he told the Dutch broadcaster NOS. “She did great in the last two years winning points for Slovenia and, without her, they wouldn’t have two spots in the [Olympic] road race.
After the Slovenian Olympic team was announced earlier this month, Pogacar posted online: “I am disgusted by the fact that Urška Zigart, a two-time national champion and the best Slovenian cyclist on the World Tour, has not been selected for the Olympic Games,” adding that he was “speechless”.
Zigart had been seen as an inevitable selection for the Olympics following a series of impressive results. “Before the Tour of Switzerland, I received a text message from national coach Gorazd Penko explaining his decision and his reasons,” Zigart told Slovenian media. “He told me he had already decided last year.”
Penko has selected Urksa Pintar, who finished second at this year’s Slovenian national championship, 11 minutes behind Zigart. “It is what it is, and now we can go on vacation together,” Pogacar said of the pair’s Olympic absence.

Men's race was awesome. Pidcock deserved the Gold, but if I ever made contact with someone while passing them like that, I would pull up and let them get back on my wheel. I never raced for Olympic Gold, though.
While I was typing this, they showed a replay. Honestly, Koretzky didn't give Pidcock enough room and may have caused the contact. So frick him. Enjoy the Silver, Frenchie.

Koretzky took the bad line. No deviation from Pidcock at all. Clean pass.

Pidcock was not only the strongest but fought like hell to battle for the gold. Good on him!

I don't know why they even bothered trying to use the fatigue angle. If Tadej was too fatigue after the Tour then Remco should have literally been in a coffin. At the end of the final TT Pog looked fresher than I did 10 minutes ago after walking to the back corner of my yard to pick a tomato and a bell pepper.

Was there any explanation why the Frenchman went so wide? He had to have known the Brit was right behind him. Great race but I was scratching my head wondering why he did that.

Great showing by Amos today- USA MTB will be strong for years with all the youngsters.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Koretzky took a bad line that cost him the gold- it wasn’t caught on the broadcast.

I’m pretty much just a MtB fan (more into gravity disciplines than xc, but do follow xc pretty close).
Hailey Batten had such a good ride. Nobody was going to touch PVP on this course on this day at home. PVP has always been kind of a not real popular rider due to her competitiveness, but that’s a pretty awesome finish for her career.
Really bummed for Blevins getting a flat. He’s usually faster than Riley, so I would have loved to see what he could have done. USA cycling is becoming relevant again with our upcoming juniors. Bjorn Riley is another up and comer we will likely see at the next games.
Surprised at the course love in this thread. Compared to Tokyo, this course was pretty tame and lame. A more technical course would have favored the Americans, as Blevins and Riley are both exceptional bike handlers (as is Bjorn). Pidcock is also a great technical rider, so it probably wouldn’t have made a difference. Modern XCO courses are pretty amazing, but if you can ride a hard tail on one… it’s a pretty tame one.
Pidcock’s pass was awesome. Shame on the French for booing.
Finally, I have to laugh at the references to Bentonville as the training ground for USAC. Yes, the Walton’s paid for the HQ to be there. Yes the team makes appearances there for some camps and photo shoots. But it’s hardly where they’re all training in the offseason year round.

I agree the course was very tame- France has some great courses too, they host uci events all the time. I’m hoping they go to Utah or Colorado in ‘28 but it will probably be the same man made crap.

Fantastic find, nobody had any idea how Pidcock got infront for the first time on that last lap.

I would assume it will be in California. Not like they have any shortage of mtb trails there

Road Race tomorrow morning. Could be quite messy with small teams and no radios. A proper distance to add into the mix as well.

It's on now. Mauritius, Thailand, Uganda and Rwanda riders in the break... did not have that on my bingo card but just like World Tour races they are getting some airtime for their "sponsor".

4 person max teams for a 270k race is idiotic. Basically a complete crap shoot and impossible to run any tactics at all.

It could very easily turn into a Cat 5 clusterfrick with a few Cat 2 baggers in the mix that SHOULD win but might not even be in medal spots at the end.

Horner called the Olympic organizers idiots over this.
