re: Jordan Chiles to have bronze medal stripped from her by IOC

Apparently the nature of going last means you only get one minute to appeal as opposed to every other gymnast averaging like a 3-4 minute appeal window.
Bet that stupid arse shite gets changed and the US forces it for LA28.
But again. I want proof of being 4seconds late.
USAG should appeal for that proof.

Jordan had a built in higher start value than that Romanian.
Jordans routine wasn't as smooth but she had harder elements that the judges overlooked. That's on the judges.
Come on. Chiles had a single jump hopping across the mat to get to a corner for a tumbling pass. Same as the Romanian but with 1 less twist or some such. The rest was so obviously dominant. The Romanian was flawless.

This is why Gymnastics cannot truly be called a sport. Judges!!!! Meanwhile....swimming....you finish the 100 meters first, you get the gold. Through a javelin the furthest....gold. Knockout all of your competitors in the ring.....gold
Before touch pads, how did they know who touched the wall first in swimming? How do they know if you don't start your stroke on time and stay underwater too long? Who determines if you're doing the proper stroke?
I guess baseball and basketball aren't sports either. Same for football. All that judging going on.

Olympic Boxing is judged. Just ask Roy Jones jr.
Horrible example..

With an execution score under 9… ok

This is something I don't understand - why aren't the receipts for this out there in the public? There must be some sort of log or meta data or something.

Meaning what...

Meaning clearly the routine wasn’t as flawless as you think it was.
I’m not saying I 100% know that Jordan was better than her, but you’re acting like it is not even a question that the Romanian was better when the judges who do this professionally all year long think differently.

I agree the Romanian had a cleaner routine. I personally liked it better than jordans routine
But jordan still had a higher start value. When they reviewed it and gave her credit for the movement in question her score jumped.
No different than a diver with a 4.1 difficulty diving head to head with a diver with a 3.8..
The 4.1 diver is understood to have the harder dive..the diver with the 3.8 can have a perfect dive and lose even if the other diver misses a bit..

This wouldn't even be being talked about had the judges not screwed up scoring the other Romanian they said stepped out of bounds when she clearly didn't. That tenth of a point deduction cost her the bronze medal.
Posted on 8/11/24 at 7:55 am to RollTide1987
Chiles shouldn’t have won bronze anyways because the 5th place Romanian had .1 deducted for stepping out of bounds but she didn’t actually go out of bounds. That .1 would put her in 3rd even with Chiles’ boosted score. This basically puts things how they should have been with Romania taking bronze. Albeit a different Romanian athlete than who it should be.

So chiles has 1 minute to appeal but the Romanian has multiple days?
This is my issue as well. The system is fricked. And the real kicker is the Romanians and American federations agreed let’s just call them both Bronze medalist and call it a day but the IOC and FIG refused.
Chiles needs to do just like Paul Hamm when they asked for his medal back in 2004 over judging error and tell them to get fricked. It’s final. This retroactive shite after the meet is BS at best.
This is what the same organization set as precedent in Hamm’s case.

Surprise surprise surprise...the drama llama appears at the Olympic women's gymnastics.

I believe her point was that the judges should get it right the first time. Not only was there a question about Jordan's routine, there seems to have been a clear error in judging one of the Romanian's as well (Voinea). If Voinea was properly scored, she would be the bronze winner and none of this controversy would be happening right now.
i agree with all of this, but her comment about the mental health and well-being of the athletes should be considered cuts BOTH ways... using that as reasoning has opened her to being a hypocrite... she wants the Romanian girl to win, as should have, but the medal was awarded to someone else...
i know the Romanian girl was devastated at the loss and it was hard emotionally and mentally, but does the same not apply to Chiles? is Comaneci going to comment about Chiles' mental well-being after she's stripped of it?
frick no... she's going to celebrate getting that shitty arse bronze medal back to Romania, the only thing she was worried about anyway....
my problem is the mental health angle... that's where she went wrong with me... saying she thought it was scored wrong, our girl was better, the judges suck donkey dick, whatever, that would have all been fine with me... but to try to appeal to people's emotions with the mental health shite, yeah, that don't sit right with me, so frick her and frick Romania

Hence why the Romanians argued they BOTH be awarded bronze medals. However, by pointing out this technicality, Chiles reverts back to her original score and original placing - which was fifth in the floor routine standings. The IOC can't allow her to have a bronze medal if they don't award one to the other Romanian gymnast who finished fourth.
At that point what kind of precedent are we setting? Do we start handing out medals willy nilly just because we're worried about the mental health of the athletes if they fail to win?

Who gives a shite how Chiles feels? She stole a podium moment from the Romanian girl that cannot be replaced. The person who should have been on the podium, watching her flag raised at the event won’t get that because of an improper challenge.

No, it was stolen by judges who had literally one job and couldn't do it correctly.
Chiles and the Romanians are getting all the outrage from social media, but the unnamed judges get to hide from all of it.

Romania can get fricked

The United States has responded by appealing the decision:

Chiles didn’t “steal” anything. Her coach rightfully challenged the judges.
Anyone blaming this on Chiles or the Romanian gymnast themselves is stupid. The Judges fricked up multiple times on this. They are the ones they should be demonized and held accountable.
