There is absolutely no doubt that this years team is 1000% more talented than the OG dream team…..however the OG dream team wouldn’t have pissed around on defense like this team did against Serbia for over 3 qtrs. Many recent US teams have had the same issue. We are lucky it didn’t cost us in this game thanks to Lebron, Curry, KD, and to a lesser extent Embiid.

Lol. Those must just be total volume numbers based on him leading the team in minutes played.

Nice cherry picking

You think it’s cherry picking to lead a team in points, assists, and rebounds

In every single basketball game someone leads in minutes. Now tell me, just how often does that player lead in all the categories above….

Maybe, but the close games in recent Olympics (Spain in 2008 and 2012; Spain, Serbia, and Australia in 2016; Spain and France in 2020; Serbia in 2024) were filled with not just NBA players, but NBA All-Stars and long-term starters (Gasol brothers, Ibaka, Rubio, Calderón, Gobert, Batum, Fournier, Bogdanovic, Jokic, Mills, Bogut, Ingles, Baynes) and a bunch of players who at least played in the NBA. These are rosters full of those players, whereas the Dream Team played when all 11 teams combined couldn't fill a roster of NBA players.

Anthony Davis has him beat on rebounds per 40 minutes by over 3 rebounds. So there’s a pure volume leader based on minutes stat right there.

James is also leading the team in turnovers by a lot. Isn’t that Caitlin Clark’s big issue? Assists don’t matter if you have a high number of turnovers to go along with it?

So FIBA provides some additional statistics, particularly efficiency statistic and a =/- statistic.

Paris Statistics

In particular, LeBron is 4th overall across all players with an Efficiency Per Game of 23.4; however, if you adjusted for minutes, he is 1st overall Per 40 minutes at 40.87.

In addition, LeBron has the 3rd highest +/- per 40, and the 3rd highest on-off +/- per 40 on Team USA, just slightly behind Steph, with Durant solidly in the lead; however, that was primarily due to coming off the bench with the 2nd team in the first 4 games, where he was +72 in 78 minutes. Whereas in this last game, he was +5 in 24 minutes, compared to Steph and LeBron's +14 in 32 and 33 minutes respectively.

So if it wasn't already obvious that your cherry-picked argument, doesn't make a lot of sense, these should show it's just straight up nonsense.

But my point still stands. Some of those stats are just based on volume of minutes, rebounds being the main one.

And we conveniently left out turnovers.

He’s 2nd in rebounds per 40 minutes, only trailing Davis, and has almost twice the 2nd highest assist per 40 on the team.

Sure, but that was largely a result of the first 2 games where he had 12 turnovers in 47 minutes (~10.2 per 40) and just a ~1.17 assist to turnover ratio. In the last 3 games, he’s only had 7 turnovers in 67 minutes, down to ~4.2 per 40 and an assist to turnover ratio of about 3.86.

Clark

5.6 turnovers per game

Lebron in Olympics

3.8 turnovers per game

Still way beyond the rest of team USA. Those assists don’t look so great anymore when taken into context. Another stat that looks good when it’s listed as “1 in” but after digging in a bit is eh.
