There is no way I can say for sure, but the outlook looks grim. I would think it would definitely be here by then, but I don't have any insider projection info and am surely not an expert. The media has said it would be here last Thursday, but now there are reports saying this Monday. So, I would think a month from now yes, but I don't know how much is expected and what the clean up time tables would look like.

I can't get the pdf's on NOAA to work it keeps saying the file is damaged. But here is the link, and the current graphic on the homepage.

Sunday afternoon near ft. Pickens, and the pics posted by the OP are exactly accurate. Can't help but think that the shite will start washing up any minute, but this place is as beautiful as it's ever been right now. Water is crystal clear, beaches are super clean. FWIW

Sure. Yesterday afternoon we started to see small oil spots floating in with the tide. They leave a fine brown line along with the bits of seashell. Went for a walk last night and saw a large oil patty imbedded in the surf. The wife poked it with a shell and oil started spewing out. Outside felt almost like a chocolate shell. Haven't been down yet today, but I see more cleanup crew activity today.

I will until they won't let me on the beach any more.

The President is out on the beach right now, and he has traffic shutdown all around downtown, 3 mile bridge , and hwy 98. I'm sure there are lots of frustrated drivers right now. No new pics, but I will try to update later with the President's remarks, even though I'm sure we have heard it all before.

ETA: Naitch, I'm gonna update the OP with your new eye witness.

Cool. It's our last full day here, so we're going to peg leg's for lunch (and to watch Brazil face frick the north koreans). After that we're gonna milk the beach until the sun goes down. I'll post what we see tonight.

Sounds good. I love me some Peg Legs. I'll try to get some new pics tomorrow. If you have some you want to share, I'll update the OP with them.

The President basically gave another ra-ra emotional type speech. He thanked the troops at NAS, and he said him and his administration are 100% behind getting the region restored to normal. The speech wasn't bad, but nothing new. Seems like the same thing we have been hearing. This one did have a little more military touch, as it was given at the naval air station.

Nature girl on the beach today. Says it's fine. I'm at the bar drinking and listening to the locals bitch up a storm about the Obama visit today. They're fricking pissed fwiw. Screwed everything up and cost them money, from the bartender to the business owner. They can't understand why they had to shut the whole city down instead of flying in for his photo op.

Screwed up for years to come??? Are you serious. They couldn't keep those beaches oiled for years to come if they wanted to! Now add to nature the fact that all they have to do is scoop up the sand and the oil is gone!!! Shouldn't take that long once they start.

I don't know about in Florida but in Louisiana the sand is pumped back into the water after the oil is removed from it.

Updated the OP with some new pics from this afternoon. The water looked really nice today. The green flag was still flying, and the waters were open. I don't know how long it will be before that changes though.

Watching the local news, Okaloosa County has issued a health advisory for a stretch of Okaloosa Island. Affected area: "Okaloosa Island from the Eglin property line (by the El Matador Condominiums on Santa Rosa Blvd), through the eastern boundary of Beasley Park."

Here is the best link I could find of the advisory with a quick search: LINK

Pensacola is in Escambia county. I just left Pensacola Beach, and there were people in the water. See OP for update.

Here is the Escambia County Health Department Website: LINK

Man, we just made a day trip to Pensacola Friday and spent the whole day next to that Pier and saw the giant school of rays pass by in the evening.

Well, I'm really glad we made the trip.

I'm leaving for Orange Beach this evening and staying through Tuesday. Any word on whats happening a little farther west of Pensacola? I realize that this oil is washing up in very unpredictable waves and while Pensacola may be getting very significant impacts, Orange Beach may be clean and vice versa.

Basically just looking for a report from the Orange Beach area, thanks.

Yeah, it was crazy. This Sunday was a top 5 day I have seen the beach, and we saw three schools of dolphins. Today, it is covered and they had a dead dolphin wash up.

Orange Beach looked similar to this about a week ago, and I'm not sure how quick the cleanup has been.

# Regardless of the color flag being flown, the Alabama Department of Public Health has issued a swimming advisory in gulf waters off Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fort Morgan, and in bay waters immediately adjacent to Fort Morgan, in Bayou St. John, Terry Cove, Cotton Bayou and Old River. A swimming advisory means that individuals are discouraged from swimming in affected waters. To read advisory information and frequently asked questions, visit the Alabama Department of Public Health website. # The beaches are OPEN and visitors are still welcome to sunbathe and walk the beach, but we strongly suggest they swim in a pool or enjoy our many off-beach activities.
