BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) - Louisiana lawmakers are officially urging Gov. Bobby Jindal and Attorney General Buddy Caldwell to file a lawsuit over the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The House gave final passage Tuesday to legislation (House Concurrent Resolution 192) asking Caldwell and Jindal to "hastily determine the parties who are at fault in this incident and then timely pursue actions against such parties."

I fully expect the state of La as well as many of the parishes to sue BP. However, Doing it at this point may be too early. We still need their help. As little as they have done, it will only get worse if a suite is filed.
There is plenty of time to file the suite.

I think it's already a forgone conclusion that we are going to sue and BP knows this. They've already lawyered up.

Why not see what BP is willing to do before just sueing them? I mean, I know the lawyers don't want to be left out of the loop, but BP knows they fricked up. Why not hear an offer before running off to get lawyers?

What is gained by filing suite now instead of later?

Interest.
Really I hear that a suit is in the works by the state, just can't agree on who to represent the state in the litigation.
The governors office wants to use some big out of state law firms who specialize in this type of litigation and have done it before. (BP has alredy hired most of the big firms in LA for defense)
The Attorney Generals office wants to use some LA attorney's (think of the legal fees generated) if they use local attys who the office already has relationships with.

From what I understand one lawsuit has already been filed because of BP initial response to the spill telling the feds and state they had everything under control. The feds and state called off the dogs then 4 days later BP revealed its larger than they expected.

State needs to hire Herman Herman Katz & Cotlar and get Russ Herman involved ASAP.

FIFY
Buddy will get his retirement taken care of and millions that should go to the state and those affected (all of us) will instead go to a bunch of shyster sleazebag attorneys (see Richard Ieyoub and the tobacco settlement to see how many scumbags were instant millionaires, with what amounted to a billing rate of >$6000/hr)
