If the mud coming out was free of oil would it not be immediately settling down on the preventer or all around it?

Nope.

On Morning Joe, the money guy, Jim Kramer, says that the top kill worked.
he knows because of what he saw in major positive movement in BP's stock on the London exchange early this morning. the BP guys are sharing their good news early - according to him.

COTiger, just curious if you have heard anything you can post this morning?
Not yet and I suspect my info will be limited today.

No it wouldn't. Not because it won't sink - it will. But because they are forcing into the BOP device with incredible pressure. Pressure will find the points of weakness -- the shaft into the earth and the cracks in the pipes coming out of the top. As long as they maintain pressure and the BOP doesn't blow out the sides the mud wins. What happens after that is anybody's guess.
Do I know what I am talking about? Not really.
But I have been reading +2000 post a day on TigerDroppings - so this is the best I can make of it. Gotta be worth something....

great. however, obama is supposed to announce at midday that there will be no new leases issued to drill.
goodbye south la.

I find Cramer fascinating. I will say this - he is usually on the money or near it.

FWIW, I think you are pretty much on the money.

Don't know about that. John Kerry of all people said yesterday that we can't shut down teh Gulf because we need the oil.

Don't freak out....it is only a six month pause so safety can be reviewed. Leases will come again. It is all political and good for it for once because this can't happen again and something went way wrong. That is not political -- safety and clean water never are.

in any case, a TD of 18360' in a water depth of 5067' can be confirmed here

If this is accurate, then I withdraw my previous comment as being inaccurate.

not to turn this into the poli board, but i think you're wrong here.
this 6 month moratorium will really only hurt the people of louisiana and mississippi. 6 months of no new deepwater drilling has the potential to put a lot of guys temporarily out of work.
dare i say, you may end up w/ more people out of work due to the moratorium than you do in commerical fishing / trawling right now.

So true.
The deepwater drilling rigs are gong to move to other places in the world like Brazil and West Africa. The people who are going to hurt are the support companies who don't operate in those parts of the world.
I received two reports early this morning from two different sources both saying we should all be hearing some good news about mid morning.
