so the oil is now going up the new riser and they will slowly close the valves to test integrity of the string?

I didn't get to see it but hopefully there's a youtube out there so I can watch the replay. Great job again by the ROV pilots.
As for what comes next, I imagine that they'll look at it closely to make sure everything is copacetic and then shut the rams to see if it holds pressure.

Whoa! I bet THAT wasn't supposed to happen. Big mass of bubbles and hydraulic fluid from near the bottom of the cap. They just zoomed in on a leaking hydraulic line.
Correction: it was on the platform just above the ram stack.

What the heck is going on with Ent ROV 2?

It looks as though, now they are starting to close some of the valves (not sure if it even works this way) but the flow of oil seems to be less.

Looks like oil is leaking from something below. Of course i don't know if that's expected...

I'm thinking that is one of the other collection systems . They said they would turn them off . Could be some backflow ?
Posted on 7/13/10 at 1:54 pm to TexTiga
Yeah, something like that, because it's not constant.

Plume looking small and slow on Poseidon ROV 1. hopefully good news.

i've been away for awhile and just got back on. fantastic, please hold the pressure so this nightmare begins to end. so the good people on the coast can begin the long road back to normalcy.

i agree. but, the primary purpose of the cap stack is to provide high pressure readings to determine if there are other leaks. so, cross your fingers and hope that there are none.

I was wondering with all the debate about how much oil is spilling ... did they put a flowmeter somewhere in this new stack .

I'm assuming you meant the Skandi ROV1? The names are at the bottom of the player.

If you're referring to the Enterprise feeds, I don't think any of that is related to the pressure test. That big cylinder is the LMRP off of the Enterprise, which was connected to the old top hat. They've been cleaning it since they removed it from the stack on Saturday. I think what you're seeing is crud being flushed out from inside the thing.

A series of methodical, preliminary steps were completed, including mapping the seafloor. Later Tuesday, National Incident Commander Thad Allen met with the federal energy secretary and the head of the U.S. geological survey and other scientists and geologists.
"As a result of these discussions, we decided that the process may benefit from additional analysis that will be performed tonight and tomorrow," Allen said.
