bridging
In an open hole blowout, the well will often just clog itself up. The hole will just get gunked up with mud, pieces of shale, pipe, whatever. It will sometimes just cave in like a mine shaft. All of that is called "bridging."
This is a cased hole, but depending on where the flow if coming from, or maybe even if there was a secondary casing collapse, I think it is still possible that it could bridge and kill itself. It is very unlikely, but keep praying.

That may be what this is. But how much can they reduce the pressure with a free flow at the top of the stack? How much is a 30 foot column of mud going to do for you?
39 psi. Woohoo!

Ocean Intervention III - ROV2 you can see it all

Dusty, which feed are you watching?

Chicken - look at the multi feed now. You can see the multiple ROV's and get an idea that they are close.

Intervention ROV2 and both Enterprise ROV's.

Intervention III shot shows the top hat behind the the head. Looks like they are bringing it in.

so that yellow thing is going on first?
Posted on 6/3/10 at 5:43 pm to Chicken
They have some work to do to get all of the hoses hanging from the hat clear before setting it on.

The smart folks say that is the top hat which will sit directly on the well head.

Does anyone know the circumference of the BOP. I guess they cant just put a huge pipe over the whole thing (Reduce down as they rise) for fear that lateral movement could rip the BOP off of the well?

I thought there were going to put another BOP on top of the current BOP...

You would need about a pipe about 50 feet in diameter. The BOP is about 65 feet high and around 30 feet across in a square shape.

Apparently that option is no longer available to them.

Hoses extra length will get shorter as they lower it to the needed depth

Thanks, Had no idea the BOP was that big. You cant tell from the camera.
BTW If i were a betting man I would guess this top hat BS aint gonna work either, Hope like hell I'm wrong.

It appears that the hat is at the right depth, no?
