Aside from the moratorium, production is still going on in the Gulf, and the feds are benefitting from it. Lets cut it off, even though we would hurt in the short term maybe it would raise the price of gas a couple of dollars and light a fire under the rest of America to show them how ridiculous this administration is being. In addition it would stop the flow of money to the feds in the form of royalties.

Unfortunetly that would benifit the people in the White House. ALL activities dealing with those platforms go through the federal government.

There are regulations and set flow rates and such for each platform that they must maintain with out applying from departures from those regs.

If they do not obey then they could lose their leases and then have all offshore oil cut completely.

Win for Barry

You can't win this battle and proposing stuff like this is a lost cause. I guess we could shut down the loop too, but then what is next? Do we block our interstates?

Best thing we can hope for is that all of these idiots get voted out of office when the time comes.

I think oil the oil companies should shut the deepwater rigs in for maintenance. Safety issues and concerns need to be addressed and two or three weeks of maintenance should be enough.

Sounds sensible, but the village idiot won't budge.

I agree, Get MMS or who the frick ever out there start inspecting and get them back on line.

they have been talking about this for a month now, you think they could have inspected a few by now..

Only other thing, Fred, the acoustic BOP's wouldn't this be a good idea to require these now ?

MMS did a very thorough rounds of inspections right after the Horizon incident occurred.

There are issues w/ the accoustic device, specifically relating to interference of transmittal of the accoustic signal to the BOP stack due to the disturbance of the water by the thrusters on dynamically positioned rig (rigs that are not anchored to the seafloor, but rely on omnidirectional thrusters to hold them on station).

No. They won't make a difference.

I am talking about all of the deepwater production facilities. They need maintenance.

They cannot stop drilling and should not. Better safety precautions need to be put in place and the royalties for Louisiana changed and not based on some archaic 1920 act.

The budget situation for 2012 and 2013 is horrific.
