a few percentage points of the oil. Microbes do most of the work.

Microbes --------> Skimming

Also the Gulf is like a Microbe Baby Nursery.

What I want to know is where are all the doom and gloomers that flooded this board with all the "this is the end of the world as we know it" bullshite. And "Our lives will never be the same" "we are all going to die" "We will never be able to fish and eat seafood again"

Seems like they have all degraded with the oil.

See all of my rants about the millions of gallons of crude that seep into the gulf naturally every year and the ocean's ability to process it.

I stopped explaining it, because I was called a wacko.

it is actually frustrating how much this oil just disapears. for the past 2 days we actually had skimming going on about 15 miles south of ft morgan/dauphin island - today everything that was able to get picked up has just vanished

We were getting crucified. I just quit posting about it for a while.... I have come to the conclusion that people around here thrive on turmoil. They get off on the negative side of things.

To be fair, the media coverage was fanning the flames and alot of people here depend on oil/gas and fishing. When its in your backyard, you tend to react more emotionally.

That said, I stayed away from this board COMPLETELY and kept my opinions to myself for the exact reason you posted. JerseyTiger and a few others were asking the right questions.

It's the politard crowd that brought that about.

The admins did their best to fend them off.

Well they haven't admitted defeat yet. They still cling to the "This isn't over yet"! They now tout the undersea plumes of oil now that they surface oil is just about all gone. They will ride this thing until it means going beyond all reason and then they will ride it some more.

I poke at the ones who make some of the more outlandish claims like "This will kill off all of the coral reefs in Florida"

They usually pretend like the posts were never made.

I am one of them, and I develop my own opinions, I dont let me media make my mind up for me.

It is my backyard, and I was and still am calm and reasonable about the situation. I dont get caught up in all the media doom and gloom, I was telling people that there was nothing to worry about 20 days into this mess. At the same time I was sending out more equipment to the spill and my business was booming, it would actually have benefited me more if it was as bad as people were acting like it was. I just kept things in perspective and just knew that it wasnt as bad from all the reports I was hearing from people that are actually out on the ground and fighting this on the front lines, not to mention the my access to the facts that were not being reported.

What will happen to the things that eat the microbes, and the things that eat them, and so on and on?

this is so counter-intuitive to all common sense that it honestly makes me wonder if he's using this to posture politically or simply incompetent.

when I see the seafood industry thriving that's when I'll believe. I would love to see somebody drop a little bit of oil in an aquarium filled with these so called miraclemicrobes, so we can get a realistic rate. "And there is evidence the microbes like to munch on the dispersant as well." That just seems so convincing, supermicrobe to the rescue.

OK gump it isn't like this is a new revelation! It is common knowledge that microbes eat oil. It has been well researched and the rates have been documented in research. Apparently you are a victim of the stupid media. It sounds new and crazy to you now because the stupid media doesn't want you to know... they don't want it to be true, they were hoping it wasn't true so the oil would stick around and give them some more ammo.

But alas... yet again the stupid media was wrong yet again.

Scientist at have been saying this all along but the scumbags in the news media outlets would rather put some dumb frick off the street that can say any outlandish thing and they can put that dribble bullshite on the air and they aren't liable or anything because it wasn't them saying it or agreeing with it.
