I don't think this has been discussed but do you think it may be possible that the state will have to seek to raise recreational licenses to recoup money lost from this year? I would think that less people will be buying licenses to fish if their areas are closed come june 30.

Portions of federal, yes. However, while the closed federal waters are no fish zones, you can still navigate through them. A 40 mile run due south from Belle Pass will put you in the clear. If you're looking for blue water, you'd be going at least that far anyway.

Does anyone know if the Grand Isle beach is open to wading, swimming, surf fishing, kayaking, etc.?

I saw the original post yesterday but when I called the folks at the motel where I was going to stay this weekend, they told me "no" and that I could only fish the bay side.

Just trying to decide what to do.

Thanks,

As of right now it looks like Grand Isle and the state waters to the fed line 12 miles our are open from Belle Pass to Empire. However for the blue water guys the feds moved their ban westward toward the Atchafalaya. Sorry for the big pic it was the only readable one I could find.

A friend of mine fished Empire yesterday and said that LDWF wardens were making fisherman dump their catch when coming back into Joshua's marina in Buras. He said that he heard they told them they had to dump the fish because of the dispersants. anybody else hear of this and get a more detaild explanation?

This keeps getting posted on a lot of boards, but I would take it with a grain of salt. It's likely all rumors and hearsay. The secretary of LDWF is publicly encouraging people to fish in the areas that they have never closed or that they have reopened.

LDWF continues to work closely with the Department of Health and Hospitals to conduct tissue-sample analysis in an effort to access all opportunities to resume normal fishing activities on Louisiana's Coast.

Not sure how they can justify reopening this area when oil is washing up to the west of it.
