Cleanup Crews: Work 20 minutes and take break per FEMA

That's what I heard, is that true? BC the sun is so hot. And their 20 minutes of work is laughable in and of itself. It probably takes them a good 7 minutes into the 20 minutes to get their first scoop. 4 minutes to tie bag, get new bag, get another scoop... woop 20 minutes are up...

Well buddy I hate to say it but your guess is wayy off. They work 40 minutes with 20 minute break, in the morning until 10 am. When the heat advisory starts at 10am they work 20 off 40. But they split the group of people into thirds so there is always someone working. They get over 2000 bags a day per zone when oil is washing up.
Trust me, they are getting shite done.

I watched them this weekend picking up stuff off of the Waveland beaches. It was hot as the frick, any they were dressed horribly for the conditions. They pretty much looked like a bunch of homeless people in blue jeans out there, but hey I'm glad they're doing it. Crazy how there was a huge line of fishing/shrimping vessels sitting of the coast. BP is employing a ton of people. It's good, but I don't WTF they are doing.

it is true, i witnessed this with my own eyes the past 5 days in grand isle. they dont do shite but sit under a tent all day. the machines at night do more work on one pass by than the workers do all day

This is because you were not here when the thick oil was on the beach. They were out there everyday doing an outstanding job with rakes and shovels. It's like I told two ladies who have camps here, "they don't look very good, but they're getting the job done"
As far the clothes and the heat. When the oil was here on the beach, they were wearing Tyvex suits. Basically they were wearing two layers of clothes with rubber boots and gloves on. This is on the beach in June when most of us would be in swimsuits and suntan lotion. I would say yes, they do deserve a long break every 20 minutes or so.
You observed the beach to be clean. that is because of the job that they did 3 weeks ago. The machines that you watched the other day or only cleaning the sand, after the thick oil has been picked up.

Or the waves naturally bury the oil in layers over night.

And when the oil is not visible on the top sand they start digging. Until your out here in the heat with the index up over 105 you can't say you know what you're talking about. I've been here 53 days with only four days off working 17 hours a day. It takes a toll on your body.

Btw neck those machines don't clean the sand. They dig up oiled sand below which is spit back on the beach for the workers to eventually bag. Those piles of sand will eventually be processed and placed back on the beach. If the machines were cleaning the beach there would be no need for the workers here.

This is pretty much exactly what I witnessed at Orange Beach over the past 4 days.

Did they put hiring freeze on for non-parish residents down there? I hear that's what's going on n Plaquemines

No I don't believe so not that we have heard. About 200 people have been fired over the last week. We had an extraction yesterday and had to drive all the way to houma.

I've done environmental jobs in this level of PPE. Those wok times are not unusual. Try doing a job in a rail yard (over rocks) in Level B in August. Your work time is under 15 min per hour. And in that time your boots are filled to the top with sweat...

I get paid but I'm more of an observer per say. If you wanna talk about the job conditions don't put blame on the workers but all the dumbfricks who have turned this into politics.
Basically, the workers are holding up their end of the deal. In four hours they have over a thousand bags, 20lbs each. That's a lot of hard work.
