So when does somebody get to be declared an "alarmist" and it be ok?
Cant think of anything much worse than this, except maybe an A bomb going off.
In 3 months the entire gulf will be black with oil, the shorelines and marshes ruined and its not ok to be alarmed now????????
Think maybe you guys are a bunch of simpletons that dont have a clue how this is going to affect La for decades to come.

I'm not downplaying the profound environmental impact that this will have. At all.

This may be the stupidest thing I've ever read on here. Poor jeff, with you as his dad.

Dude chill and stfu! It's bad yes but it's not a meadorite vs dinosaur situation.
< 1% of the gulf now is black. Some is rainbowed though. This is a sheen. Not a slick

1)Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. makes many of the worlds rigs b/c they have one of the biggest & fastest ship yards on the planet.
2)If an attack submarine had torpedoed the rig no one would have made it off.

You need to quit watching CNN, take a deep breath and try to use the few brains cells you have for something approaching rational thought.
It is an ecological disaster, but we have no real clear idea of how extensive the disaster is going to be. But the "gulf will be black with oil" is a bit of hyperbole. Go google the Ixtoc I spill in 1979. That bitch gushed for a year. It did a lot of damage, but it didn't end life as we know it.
This will affect Louisiana for decades to come. Its going to effect the entire country because of the reacitonary and opportunistic political measures that will be taken that will drive the price of oil up.
Oddly enough, however, Louisiana tends to benefit from higher oil prices, and our oil industry ramps up, creating more jobs and more business.
But I digress. My original point was: the sky isn't falling, chicken little.

Not to mention the effects of the radioactive fallout...
To even think this spill is remotely close in destructive ability to an atom bomb is fricking ludicrous.

That hair cut is ludicrous!

Seems like the majority of posters on here recognize what an ecological disaster this is going to be. But there are a few, like jeffsdad, that make post after post spewing misinformation with no links, and making outrageous comparisons, such as the A-bomb dropping, Katrina.
What are wrong with these people? Does it make them feel more important to hype up the severity when scientists don't even know the full effect yet?

Didnt compare it to an a bomb idiots. I was asking how much does it take to alarm you guys. I actually hope you are correct in that this will be just a minor inconvenience.
We will see..... if it pours unabated for 3 months, we will see how the gulf looks.
And we will see how much of that marsh survives.

If this hole in the ground spewing oil continues for 90 days as some say, I predict we will have to remove the Mississippi levees south of NOLa - effectively ending the life of every town below it. An alternate path to the port of NO will have to be devised.
