A friend of ours staying in Perdido just texted they closed the beaches in Gulf Shores.

Wow! I just got back yesterday after being there for a week. Everything was fine. Guess I was lucky.

you're friend is incorrect

they are advising that people do not swim in the gulf, but the beaches are open

LINK

The Alabama Department of Public Health has issued a swimming advisory for waters off Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fort Morgan. A swimming advisory means individuals are discouraged from swimming in gulf waters or in bay waters immediately adjacent to Fort Morgan. The beaches are OPEN and visitors are still welcome to sunbathe and walk the beach, but we suggest they swim in a pool or enjoy our many off-beach activities.

just talked to paw-in-law. he said beach is fine where he is. there are red flags though, not sure if its because of oil or water conditions.

The oil is there. I was sent a pic earlier today of the little oil balls that was on the raft my girl was floating on in O' Beach. She wasn't aware that they were asking everyone to stay out of the water.
