Looking to buy a new house and think I found one.

3 bd, 1 bath 842 sq feet. $189,000

Now the outside might not be much

but don't let that fool you. The inside is like an Aspen Ski Lodge in the desert.

Aspen Fixer Upper

Aspen, Telluride, and Park City have some interesting listings.

There are several $200k+ timeshares for a late season ski week. “Sorry, I can’t make it. I’ll be at my place in Aspen that week.”

I have wasted hours lately on Zillow searching properties I will never buy in or around the Chatahoochee National Forest in northern Georgia.

A buddy of mine I went to Rummel with just bought a giant house in that area. I haven't been yet, but he told me it has a 57 car garage.

My dad has a little house in Montana that looks kind of like that. Every wall and ceiling is wood. I can't decide if I like it or not.

I used to think your way about owning a house after I read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” in college. I regurgitated that thought to someone who I thought would be receptive of the idea. His response was, “yeah, that may be true in financial sense, but the grass in the yard of a house that you own just feels better”. Once I bought my first house I understood what he meant. There is certainly an emotional/phycological aspect to homeownership.

Yeah, that baffles me. You have a big lot and are building a big custom home and still put your garage front-facing?

That driveway cost more than my house.

There are some beautiful freaking houses listed in this thread.

I mean I say all the time that I have really never had a strong desire to be rich. I like my job, and am pretty content with my life with no major complaints.

But damnit at the same time if I ever won a mega million lottery, I would love to be able to buy a $10 million house away from society, quit my job, and live a modest life with my family for the rest of my days.

Do you think the novelty or enjoyment or whatever of owning a baller pad wears off after awhile? I'm not talking about buyer's remorse, but I guess...buyer's apathy? buyer's desensitization?

Like sitting here looking at these pictures it's easy to ooh and ahh, obviously the first time you walk in or sleep in the place or whatever. But after like the third year or something, I wonder how many people are just like, "meh." Same with owning an exotic car or something. I'd imagine it loses its appeal over time (much like marriage )

It’s a real thing for people to search for gratification in material purchases so when you have big money to spend you can burn through an amazing amount of cash just from scratching that next itch.

Heh - the house I lived in, 1978-1981 in Boulder - $1.7 million, and nothing that special, really. My dad had a hard time selling it.

Yes to an extent I am sure. I also think some of these houses are too freaking big. I would get lost in them. I am all for a really nice house in a really nice area but I don't think I want 15,000 sq ft or whatever.

I really believe that people that buy these houses have many acquaintances that hang out at the house all the time. It's the only reason I can see having that much room.

AND ANOTHER THING! You have all these great outdoor areas and you put up 1 crappy picture and go back to showing stairs. Another thing, most, not all, of these houses are designed amazing and then you see the pool and it's a box, you gave no imagination to what people ohh and awww over. My two cents, spend more time on the outdoor parts of the house!

Edited to say, the Telluride house would be my pick, like the house and the area.
