One child is dead and more than 40 others — mostly kids — injured after a bus carrying a youth football team crashed on Interstate-30 in Arkansas early Monday, according to local CBS reports.
According to a report from a CBS Dallas-Ft. Worth affiliate, Arkansas State Police say the charter bus returning home from a championship game in North Texas over the weekend was carrying coaches, staff and players before rolling over around 2:40 a.m. on I-30, just west of Benton, Arkansas. The injured were taken to hospitals in both Benton and Little Rock, Arkansas, reports indicate.
Police say the bus went off the road, hit an embankment and overturned. The cause of the crash is unknown and details of the crash are scarce amid a breaking news report. This story will be updated when more information becomes available from authorities.
According to reporter Susanne Brunner, "I spoke with a coach from Memphis TN who says it was a Little League Football Team on board the bus. Players range from 9-12 yrs old. They were traveling from Dallas, TX back to Memphis. 1 person dead, at least 21 people taken to the hospital.
The bus driver is reportedly alive and is being questioned by law enforcement, according to Arkansas State Police.

Nothing sadder than a childs death. God be with his family, and teammates/coaches. Also, the bus driver.

Driver probably fell asleep at the wheel. Sad story and prayers for the families.

That'd be my guess.

I think about this every time I ride in a charter bus.
Most people know the other person driving and won't ride with someone who has more than two beers.
But we willingly jump on a much harder to control large vehicle with some dude we don't know and we have no idea if the guy is tired, drunk, stoned or just a shitty driver.
Great, I am going to a big corporate Xmas party this weekend on a bus. I have this to think about now.

Most bus drivers are pretty friendly, so you can chat it up with them on your way on the bus or as they wait outside of it. you can assess if they are drunk or impaired prior.
Also, i'm thinking yall arent going to be on a dark long stretch of hwy for hrs at 2am in the morning, so kind of being a bit dram if you are concerning yourself with the drvr on a short few mile drive.

That's a tragedy and very sad - may God be with them.
That said, why do a bunch of 9-12 youth footballers have to travel from Dallas to Memphis for a game. That's over the top.
Back in the day, the big travel game for me at that age was going from Sulphur to Westlake...
