Very true.

I would guess it's mostly the woman that does this.

Well I got married at 22 first kid a year later. 15 years later and 3 kids (14-7 years old) and I'll be divorced in 7 months. She was 19 when married 20 when first was born.

Do you think if they can be civil to one another they should stay together for the children?
Happy New Year Rag.

In my case it was. Been divorced seven years and still keep trouble shooting to determine if I could have done anything different to change the outcome. So far, the answer has been "no". We just simply grew too far apart. Then again, I knew I had a problem when she couldn't even tell someone what I did for our living. Loved her, but have had to learn to let go. Neither of us were happy. The night she left, the kids actually quit fighting each other. Didn't know what to make of that. Oddly, they flipped a coin for their mother's parking spot and the dog called dibs on her side of the bed.
She came by the house about a year back to get something. The dog seemed to be super excited to want to go out and see her, so I let her out. Dog walked up to about ten feet from her and growled at her and then went back into the house. The look on the ex's face was priceless.
Since then, the kids have shown me a couple of pictures of her. She is 56 and looks like she's in her fricking 70's. Don't know what's going on, but glad it's not under my roof.

I have a coworker that has faced an incredible amount of loss this year(death of her 3 oldest children) just find out her husband of less than a year is cheating on her. Don't know if they will divorce or not. They have a young child together so my heart breaks for not only my coworker, but her daughter as well. Divorce just sucks and shatters many lives. I really hope I never have to face it personally.
Happy New Year to you as well Rag

I took it a lot harder than I did the death of my father, who I miss 23 years later.
The hardest thing I have done thus far was being with my kids while their mother told them she was leaving. My son's reaction at the news left me devastated. Even when I think about it now it still hurts. I took the kids on a couple of out of town trips while we tried to re-group as a different family unit. As hard as I tried, I don't think I ever really pulled that off. Still hurts years later. As hard as I have tried, it is a pain that I really can't seem to overcome. Don't know why.
