quote:

A super strain of head lice has hit half the country in recent months. The so-called “super lice” are resistant to pytheroids, the bug-fighting ingredient found in most over-the-counter (OTC) medicines used to fight lice.
A strain of hard-to-kill lice has hit 25 states, spanning from the West to the Northeast to the South.

Head lice are parasitic insects that live in human hair and feed off of blood drawn from the scalp. A common occurrence in kids, lice are contagious, annoying and sometimes tough to get rid of. And although head lice do not spread disease, their bites can make a child’s scalp itchy and scratching can lead to infection.

From my experience it's out of control in the Hispanic community. We had families that would just pass it around to each other. They could never figure out how to rid their nasty houses of the pest.

When my family and I first moved to Dallas years ago due to a contract, we picked a somewhat nice area to live in but we were zoned for a school that was in the ghetto.

First 2 weeks my kids were in school, our entire family caught lice. It was an ongoing battle for the next year. My son and I had to shave our heads to stop the lice and my wife and daughter had to keep their hair short and go to a lice removal clinic on a weekly basis for the entire year.

We moved out of the area to where we live now and the lice problems stopped. They say it's not a rich or poor man's problem but I can attest that our problems stopped once we changed to schools in a better area.

I was very confused because the school's here don't remove children if they have lice. They let them return to school even if diagnosed. I recall when I was younger that kids would be required to stay home until the lice were under control. I guess times have changed. The reason we got from the school was that they did not keep kids out of school for lice because they didn't want the kids to be stigmatized. I was in shock.

Lulz, this is the exact reason lice thrive buddy.

ETA: When I was in school the "lice check" day was always one of my favorites. Something about a few school nurses running through your hair with chopsticks just gets you going.

We just pulled our daughter of of public school and put her in private school and this was a factor. It was rampant. Wal Mart stuff won't kill it. The stuff that kills it is too expensive for poor families so it's everywhere in public schools.

It's in Catholic schools as well....

We went through it at the beginning of the year.....

Side note... Tell your middle schools kids to quit taking selfies with friends with their heads touching...

I had this issue when my kids were in daycare, the best method to get rid of them was the Cetaphil Method.

It doesn't keep them from getting it again a month later though, a change in daycare eventually solved the problem for good.

Disgusting.

Someone needs to invent some shite like Frontline for humans.... put it on the back of your kid's neck and no more lice for 30 days!

Actually the dirtier the hair the better. Its harder for the lice to plant themselves one oily hair.
