You think you're tough, until your kid gets hurt

We've all heard people say it before. "Wait until you have a kid, you'll understand". It's true.
My kid broke his arm Monday, both the ulna and radius, and dang I feel terrible for him. I know a broken arm isn't a big deal and usually don't think twice about it. I've broken more bones than I can count. But man, when it's my right hand man immobilized and in pain, it hits me pretty hard.
He's handled it like a champ though. He didn't cry when he broke it, on the way to the ER, nothing. Just as chill and calm as could be. Kid is tough as nails right now.
He went to school the very next day and didn't ask for pain meds a single time. Did all his school work without complaining and can't even use his dominate arm. Pretty impressive for a 6 year old kid.
Just hate seeing my kid like that is all, it gets to me even though I know he will be fine.
We see the ortho today to see if they want to plate it or put a cast on. After they set it back in place, everything aligned very well so I'm not anticipating it needing a plate put on.

Kids are resilient, more resilient than adults quite often

Very true statement, and he has proven this to me.

Good luck my man.
You just reminded me of another reason to keep holding off on having kids.

Obviously, wait until you're ready. Don't put it off out of fear. Having kids is one of the most rewarding things you can do as a man, or a human.

I am convinced that if kids aren't taught to cry when they're hurt, they won't

My 3 yo broke her arm and was a real trooper about it. Got her cast signed by a bunch of LSU football players.
Didn't slow her down a bit.

If they are taught that crying to get what they want won't work. Mine are pretty good about it. We use words. Words get you what you want if you use them correctly.
Crying gets you ignored, unless they are actually hurt.
And when they are a little ice and kisses on the booboo stops it real quick.

I realized this first day I dropped my first off at kindergarten.
She got out and never looked back.
I cried all way home.

Kids are pretty resilient. Thank God he makes them that way. Our 2 year old grandson broke his leg in a freak accident and had to be in a half body cast for 8 weeks. Now when you are not fully potty trained, that gets interesting.
Little guy handled it like a champ. Once they realize theres no fighting it, they do fine.

Know the feeling way to well man. We were in the ER Sunday morning and he insisted we left there and went to the playoff game he was supposed to be playing in so he could support his team. He's 6 also, there pretty tough at that age. He's at the ortho with mom now getting the path forward. Hope your little one has a fast, painless recovery!!

The same thing happened with us. We thought he would be devastated on the first day of school. We walked him to his class and he walked right in and started talking to the other kids. It was like he forgot we were there.

The feeling of helplessness you have when your kids or dogs are hurt is the worst.

Congrats on having such a good kid, what was really tough for my wife and I, was having our infant put under for surgery at 6months old. Talk about helpless....

Same to you my man.
Ironically, my kid has his final baseball game of the season this weekend. He already said he wants to go to support his team.

When he was sitting in the bed in the ER half out from pain meds, I kept telling myself I was thankful it's not something serious. I was thinking about all the parents that have gone through exactly what you did. I can't imagine the feeling and I hope I never have to. Hope your kid is all better now.

Nope, it has codeine in it. If he doesn't use any by the weekend, I'm purple dranking the shite out of it.

My kids are my Achilles heel. I can take most anything that comes my way, but to see my kids suffer turns me inside out. Hope your little guy heals quickly.
