But this is an interesting little piece about how the US is a pretty well educated country. I was a little surprised by this.

Now, think what we could do if more than 3% of the billions of dollars we give the DoE every year could make it to the actual children being educated.

Pretty well educated but the avg IQ went from 100 to 98. Makes you wonder about the rising cost of higher education.

The US has more extremes than most countries on that list. None of them have the illegal immigration problem we have, though the Euros are getting a taste of it. None of them has our inner cities dominated politically and ethnically by a single demographic, except maybe India (different, but still dominant demo in the cities). Our suburbs are comparable to or better than any other place in the world for how well the average baw lives, but our cities and extreme rural areas (Rio Grande Valley in Texas, the Mississippi Delta, Appalachia) are what you hear about. No country in Europe or 1st world Asia has anything like those areas.

All that to say, yeah, we have a lot of educated people, and yeah, we have a lot of uneducated ones too. Look where other large population countries with diverse geography fall on the list - Japan is the one closest to us and they are way down.

From a population and land mass standpoint, our comps are Russia, China, India, Brazil and Indonesia (top 15 in both land mass and population).

If our education system really sucks so bad, how are we ranked in the top 5 in median income, trailing only little peckershit homogenous countries sitting on oil, and also why aren't we way more poor and fricked up like Russia, China, Brazil, India and Indonesia?

Americans definitely are top 5 in complaining and addicted to bitching about stuff.

Not sure percentage of Bachelors is the best way, even if it's more objective than most, but assume all other information/data types are self-defined/self-reported, so not sure there's a better way. Thought Japan would be a touch higher, but their post-secondary has fewer levels than ours.

Or even better, just eliminate the Department of Education! But you probably think that’s a terrible idea.

Despite constant hand wringing and irrational fear the United States is pretty damned great today relative to our own history, the history of the world and the world as it exists today. It is not a hard argument to make that there has never been a greater period to be alive and an American than right now. I think the main source of the angst we "feel" is due to our knowing how we live, the ease of life in the US in 2025, is unprecedented in the history of mankind and as such may be snatched away from us at any moment. There is no evidence that the end is nigh, in fact just the opposite is true...but we are sooooo worried about it that we will not allow ourselves to acknowledge that we live lives that would make the most wealthy and powerful humans who ever lived just 4-5 generations ago lives look like one a peasant would be miserable in. If we ain't careful we may just fulfill those fears....it seems like a good many of us would like nothing better than to be in a shooting war with people who think slightly or significantly different than we do.

If you feel the majority of people around you are idiots…then you’re probably the idiot.
