I did find the mom on FB but again, the timing for reaching out to her now is... bad.

Could be a foggy one night stand; could be a poor woman who was just trying to get to her car at night.

thats why i dont do the the DNA kit
Idk what the policies are off the various companies, but some of these murders they're solving are by finding someone that's a partial match, as much as 6 generations removed.
And it's usually in a way that they know it's *exactly* that number of generations away, not just "within".
So even if you don't do a test, there's still a potentially large number of people that can do one that eventually outs you, regardless of you not being in the system.
That's part of what's scary/ ethically sketchy about all of these companies (not just ancestry services, but also medical testing) doing DNA testing. They pretty much all have terms in the small print where they get to keep a copy of your DNA forever, and own any resulting IP.

Yep exactly. AND, their dna database just grows & grows by the week. It's kinda scary if you think about it.

Crazy story. Hope it works out for all parties involved. My best friend did a 23 and me and has discovered 3 half brothers and sisters he never knew about, and finally knows who his real dad is. Super happy for him, he’s gone through years of torment not knowing the truth and had gotten really close with his half siblings over the course of the past few weeks. I’d be scared shitless to do one of these and find like 5 half siblings

Was he adopted, or was it an affair situation?

I think this is it, but again, nothing's 100%.

And you keep calling her "the mother" or "the mom" so it isn't very clear in those posts that you actually know this woman.

Yeah sorry. And thanks. I added more detail as I was asked questions, that's where it probably got confusing. I knew the mom for a few hours 30 years ago, and honestly probably forgot about her within a month of that night. Life was a mess back then. Only learned who she was through research and then confirming with the daughter. Still have not spoken to her. And yes I badly want a relationship with my daughter, whatever she's comfortable with. But it's been painfully slow-going, just have to stay patient. Figured there were others like me on this great site, but I guess not.

You may have said earlier in the thread, but do you have other children with your wife? If so, do they know and what do they think?

Yep. Found out two years ago that I fathered a son at age 15. No shite. Still haven't met in person. Wife knows. Thinks it's funny as shite. Haven't told either of our sons. Been digesting got two years.

Wife was trippin' at first but slowly came to accept the situation. Even to the point of asking how's she's doing and trying to coordinate weekend trips to where the daughter lives, so we can meet in person.
We have 3 kids, one is mine from a previous marriage and the other two are my stepson & stepdaughter. All three are pretty lukewarm about it. Not upset, but not like, thrilled. It's funny because my son & stepdaughter are the same age, and my stepson is the same age as my new daughter! And, ugh - the new daughter and stepdaughter's birthdays are the exact same damn day of the year. LOL. Neither one knows this yet. I expect the stepdaughter is going to just love that.... not

I'm not how much personal detail I'm willing to post to the internet. I've already disclosed where I live and that I've degrees from two institutions. Hope you are not offended.
Suffice to say he's an adult.
He found me. His mother eventually told him why his last name was different. She told him I knew about but denied him. ALL false.

No man, of course not offended. I get it, I've been very careful not to spill any identifiable details. But I'm good with talking if you want to.
