I have no problem with them seizing and holding the guns if there is a complete itemized documentation. We have these forms for anything we hold for any reason. And also if there was no relative capable of securing the property.
Having said that, I think they are out of line running the weapons.
Secure the weapons under community care taking (Cady v. Dombrowski). Investigating the guns or any other property without probable cause is a no no.
