WWYD regarding a dentist appt. and root canal?

I went to my dentist about a month ago for a cleaning and was told / shown that one of my fillings was cracked and would require a crown ( I have not any pain or issue with the tooth for as long a I can remember).
Yesterday, I went to get a temp crown and fitted for the permenent. Half way through of her digging she hit a nerve or something then stopped and said I need a root canal. WTF? I told her I would not be in the chair had I known a root canal was even possible. She did not mention a root canal during the crown discussion or when they gave me an estimate. Furthermore, she didn't even do root canals and today I have to drive thirty minutes for a damn root canal. Then have to go back to her Monday to get another temp crown and fitted for the permanent crown. Then go back in two weeks to get the permanent crown.
That's 4 visits at 2 different dentist for a tooth that I had zero issues with other than a small cracked filling! And an extra 275.00 for the root canal!
After all that, my question is: after this crown issue is resolved should I find a new dentist for me and my kids? Or am I overreacting?
I think I should because I believe she purposely did not tell me about the possibility of a root canal because she knew I would not agree to getting a crown.

Should have just got it pulled.

$275 seems like a good price for a root canal.

She probably should have communicated that a root canal was a possibility. I’ve been told that, but got lucky that the crown was all I needed.
I’ll say this, if she does good work and isn’t fricking your teeth up then I would stay.

I mean you can let it get infected and possibly have the infection move to your brain, but whatever.

Good as in dirt cheap? That would scare me.

Probably means the rot was deeper than expected and she got into the pulp. Not a dentist though.

Why wouldn't they just redo the filling?

Go to a dentist that has the equipment to make crowns in house and they can consolidate the visits. Although I'm sure the equipment is expensive so you may end up paying more for other services.
In all seriousness, if you don't like the way the dentist is operating then find someone that you like. Ask for some recommendations on Nextdoor.

I've gotten a permanent crown installed and had to have a root canal done after the fact once. It's a PITA because you get to a level of pain and infection that is very uncomfortable when this happens. $275 for a root canal is dirt cheap. The dentist was saving you a lot of pain and aggravation in the future.

Yeah that’s a steal. Do that now before you have paralyzing mouth pain and pay over a grand for emergency root canal

Need pics of your dentist and her techs in order to give proper advice.
Do they brush their boobs across your head while working?

tell him I got a crown guy and a root canal guy. Ask him how much for the labor?

That's fairly common with a handpiece and a burr, if she hit the nerve then she has effectively killed the tooth. If she let it go and just went on without telling you then in the very near future you'd be going back to have a root canal at the minimum and hope to not have that tooth pulled at the worst. She's sending you to an endodontist because a lot of general dentists don't feel comfortable doing root canals. It sucks, teeth have only a fraction of a millimeter between a successful procedure and pulping/hitting nerve and it can be very difficult to know where that boundary is depending on so many factors.
