You would think these business owners, at least a few, would arm themselves and protect what they've worked their whole lives for...I bet they were more than warned about doing this from the city and local police

I'd booby trap the hell out of the inside and rig half of my Nikes to explode after 1000 steps.

ETA: This is a shoe store scenario, obviously.

Board up and defend it. Remove the boards and break the glass, I start shooting.

I would've removed all inventory and/or computers. Taken out all windows and replaced with cheap glass that I would break myself.

Make it look like the store had already been looted so the looters move on to the next store.

None of that does....but obviously boarding up & putting up support posters doesn't do anything either.

If insurance doesn't cover damages then you really have no choice but to gather some guns, friends and beer and pretend that you're playing duck hunting on the original Nintendo.

Wasn't there a white owned business where the owner and friends successfully defended it back in the August riots. Wonder if they did the same this go around.

I would have paid however much it cost to add a terrorism/riot rider to
My insurance policy. It's a valiant thought to want to defend your business, but in reality, if it costs you your life, what good has it done your family? Now they have a dead family member and a business that's gone up on flames. I'd do what I could to protect my business, but there's no way in hell I'd be in the middle of all those fools.

I would have emptied my store of all the goods, armed myself and some buddies with some AR's, bought a few Rots or pitbulls to let loose inside the store and boarded it up.

“Most small businesses have what’s known as a businessowners policy (BOP), and BOPs generally cover riot-caused property damage,” according to Insurance Information Institute spokesman Michael Barry.

Would be interesting if none of those businesses reopened leaving them without convenience stores and the McDonalds ... then when people bitch about nothing there for them to eat, you can easily reply "Well, you burned it down. Another life lesson in consequences for your actions."
