according to this... that's incorrect... the King's wife is a Queen Consort
it's just to distinguish it from a Queen Regent... who is the actual ruler of the country (Queen Elizabeth II was a Queen Regent b/c she was the actual Head of State)

I guess never really
there will always be a "Regent" and a "Consort" in the monarchy
whether it be King Regent & Queen Consort or Queen Regent & Prince Consort (I guess tradition dictates the spouse of a Queen Regent goes by Prince Consort instead of King Consort)
