It'll only get worse if TOPS gets the axe. Parents who were once paying a few hundred bucks or nothing at all towards tuition will be staring down $5-6000 a semester plus the high rent these places charge.

You're exactly right. There won't be any incentive to live in these kinds of places in a few years once TOPS is gone. Hell, who will want to go to LSU when the tailgating is gone, no more TOPS, and this shite? It's progressively getting worse and worse it seems.

On a side note, the Cottages is so poorly run these days. I'm not sure why anyone would want their kid to live there. I got tricked into living there essentially b/c the tour they gave portrayed some really decent houses to live in (I was a naive fricker). The one me and my roommates at the time received had dog/cat hair scattered everywhere, mold was growing in the air vents, and I couldn't even flush fricking toilet paper down the toilet (the maintenance crew didn't even know how to fix my toilet)... That's literally the last apartment complex I would want my kids staying at. Not to mention the security at the Cottages is awful. They almost always leave the gates open, and the alarm systems at each of the houses hardly ever work. It's no wonder they have been getting an influx of thugs as of late.

tl;dr - BR is violent and the Cottages suck. Choose wisely parents.

Section 8 is the single worst government program in existence. It is an unrelenting cancer. And now there is a policy of spreading the ghetto out, intentionally, to areas that are ghetto-free. It's perverse and sick but will never be abolished. landlords and apartment corporations want it, and of course on the other side liberals would cry racism.

I heard the third victim was a male actually. Not sure if he died though.

None of the victims were LSU students.

Also in fairness to Baton Rouge this rapid advance of apartments/college housing going up, has happened to a lot of large universities, including ones in isolated college towns like Oxford. It is large national corporations that build them so cheaply that are playing a very easy risk/reward game because of section 8.

Would not be surprised to see a security guard at the little hut at the cottages from now on, not that could have/would have prevented that. But for anyone else on the board that goes to LSU it would be somewhat noteworthy.

The Cottages are definitely going to change some policies after this. They can't afford to compete with the five brand new complexes with this shite going down. Someone will certainly be changing some policies after hundreds of parents and students call in bitching and trying to break lease.

Two deceased are Southern University students per The Advocate

The third victim is a 24-year-old man who's expected to survive, BRPD said.

I'd imagine they build them, and dump them within a few years b/c of the natural progression of things. Would be the smart thing to do

I'm almost positive this was a college party thrown by a student that anyone just invites themselves to. Happens all the time. The section 8 joke here doesn't apply. What youre saying about section 8 in general may be true though. But trust me there are always parties there thrown by students, I know plenty of them. It's not random ghetto blacks throwing them like you may want to believe.

Exactly what happened to the Cottages. Company built them super cheap and they were reallu popular for 3-4 years because it was the first of these type of complexes in Baton Rouge. The company sold it to another one just before the buildings started to get worn down and needed a ton of repairs. Management/quality of buildings along with the rise of other complexes led to its demise.
