When you order to-go you are less likely to order a drink and leave a tip. Drinks have the highest profit margin, and cooks share some of the tip money with the servers. The $6.95 is a dine-in fee. To avoid this fee, dine in.

Ive done to go on Waffle House plenty of times, I have never seen that fee.
Are you sure you didn't use Doordash, Ubereats etc to order

Please note that a 15% service fee is included automatically in all take-out orders.
This is a notice on Jed's website. It's an ok place on Jefferson near government. It certainly is not worth the 15% especially considering they are already overpriced. Their cheeseburger is $16.

One of those things you just pay, smile and leave. Anyway they could be working a long shift.

When you dine in, they have to do more work too. It takes more time waiting on your table, cleaning up your mess, and washing your dishes. If I dine-in, I'm also using the condiments in the restaurant. Tipping is done b/c of service. Handing someone a togo bag isn't worth 15-25%, but I still tip a little for togo orders.

It's been a while since I worked in food service, cooks didn't get a piece of the tips. Servers shared a small piece with hostesses, bar staff, and the bus crew.
