I think the $27/hour for a welder mentioned in the OP is accurate but its not what they will make the rest of their lives. I know for certain that journeymen welders in my area make $40+.
$27.00 x 40 =$1,080.00 x 52 =$56,160.00
$40 x 40 =$1,600.00 x 52 =$83,200.00
That’s an increase 48.14%
And that’s not even counting overtime where they’ll be making $60 per hour.

Maybe you should try to focus on simple math since you apparently can’t do it.

I get 5 weeks of them, your mileage may very

Most tradesmen do get holidays
Which would add to the overtime they have to work based on the way that’s calculated to get to the $150k

Man you are a miserable prick, aren't you? Journeyman is not the end point. In the example I'm using (welders) they start around $27 and most are making close to $60 when they retire. 27 to 60 is over 100% wage growth over a career which isn't bad. With minimal overtime and per diem these guys are making over 100k annually after a few years experience. Journeymen (+/-10 years experience) are making in the $40's/hour and the most experienced guys with the most certifications can make upwards of $60/ hour. Again, with minimal overtime and per diem, welders in south Louisiana are making over $150k annually. I'm not a dumbass and I don't comprehend at a 2nd grade level. You seem angry man chill out

More than tradesmen, generally, which is kind of the entire point

And he will make relatively that for the rest of his life with no benefits
He'll actually own his own company in his early 40s and have to avoid Insurance Salesmen like the plague because they'll want to come in and sell supplemental to all his employees in the breakroom.

tradesmen get vacation days too. How hard is that to understand?
Eta: I get 210 hours of pto/year.

A not insignificant amount of them are former technicians

And when they take those, they aren’t going to be able to get paid for OT unless they work a shite ton of hours over the pay period, which means they’re going to have to work even more than that 2500 hours or not take any days off.
Can you make $150k as a welder. Of course you can. If you’re willing to work a shite ton and live in a hotel or a camper away from home for long periods of time working with some of the dregs of society. Sounds pretty fricking miserable, certainly not quite the romantic vision of the trades a lot you retards try to sell

Why would a tradesman want to get out of blue collar work where the pay is so good? Doesn’t make much sense to me.
Look, I’m just going off what I’ve been told

Have you earned a living in a trade? If so which one?
Nope. I listened to the old man and went to school. Then got into management. Years later, we joked about him wanting me to take over his trucks. I told him, I was too lazy now.
I'm happy doing what I do. And that's what I want for my son. So I would encourage him to find a career that makes him happy as possible. He's got enough uncles and cousins in the trades(including logging) to know how 'fun' it is.
If he wants to go work for 2-3 years before figuring out that's not his calling, I would encourage that. It's better than going to college for 2-3 years and realizing that's not his ministry.
I will say that when he wanted to be rancher, I told him to find something else.

my dad had lots of big trucks, heavy construction equipment, and specialty tools, and I wanted to drive/operate everything, and I did, but fortunately for me I learned real quick that it was better to know how to run all of that stuff/be able to show other people how to run it, so that you knew what to expect out of them than to spend every day on a bulldozer, backhoe, dragline, eighteen wheeler, etc.
Same

A large percentage of tradesmen aren’t happy doing what they do, pointed to the high rates of things like drug addiction, alcoholism, divorce rates, etc. which all outpace their white collar peers

No one is saying it is a dream job you retard
It’s a viable career path for a lot of people and something many can live a comfortable life with. It also can open doors to less labor intensive roles that often pay more because there is a ton of value in having experience using what you are selling
Most people are in these jobs cause they don’t have the brains or social skills for other things. Some just prefer the lifestyle

They ARE saying if college isn't for a kid, that a trade can be a viable option for a living wage job. And that it beats working flipping burgers for minimum wage with little upward mobility.
Some of y'all really lack some fricking nuance.
