A fluid exchange is fine. Changing the filter is fine. What you don’t want to do is put any type of cleaner in there. There lots of tiny passages in a transmission. If there is build up in there, cleaners can make it loosen and travel somewhere it doesn’t need to be.

YES! Flush the trans and put a new filter in it. Change ALL fluids, bleed brakes, power steering, flush coolant, and change engine oil. Then don't worry about it again!
