A desk beer, it’s a real thing right?

I think I'd rather none than just only one.

I smoke weed every once in a while
I sold print advertising with a guy that functioned better in our office if he was high. It was exactly like the OP explained: "because it would take the edge off". This guy couldn't deal with his customer's, or the other people in the office straight. High, he was an engaging, funny guy. He'd sit at his desk, do ad layouts, and then bring the ad over to show me. I'd say he was in his element, when he was high.
He lived near me, so one time when I had my car in the shop, I rode to the office with him. He smoked a couple of joints on the way to work. That was the day I realized he needed it to function.
He ended up getting fired because he liked going out on his boat all summer long. He used to bring his boat to work and leave to "go see customers". It was obvious he was just heading to the lake. Our boss talked with him about it, and the next day he did it again. A couple of days later he got in trouble for leaving early again. Finally, they fired him. If he didn't leave early every day, and if he'd just taken his boat somewhere else, instead of pulling it into the office parking lot, he'd have been fine.
