Youtube has a hard time making sure the right videos get upvoted like they want, so they end up just removing the downvotes or removing comments.

That’s how the “cancel” mob patrols Reddit. They camp “New” and instantly downvote r/News, TIL, AskReddit, etc. items that they don’t want others to see.
As soon as it hits -9 (just 9 people to downvote) the post can’t be seen by other people.
So a small group of people can filter content that the majority sees, and conversely upvote “ah ha” content and the ratio of upvotes to time posted pushes that content to the top.

Reddit is good in the sense that it facilitates the dissemination of a vast amount of information. Yet, it’s also terrible for the very reason you point out.
