Worked at a store in college where the manager who hired me up and quit the week I started. The senior salesperson was pushed into the management position until they could find a replacement. She obviously didn't want to be a manager and had no leadership skills. We got into a few arguments because what she was telling us to do wasn't right. She fired me on a Sunday when it was just me, her, and her husband in the store. She was fired a short time later.

I never really had a bad boss, but I did have a female VP one time that other women could not work for. It made for a bad work environment.

I had a boss one time that was in over his head. It was sad to watch. He had worked his way up and just got over promoted. Lasted six months before he quit.

I worked for an old miserable bastard who was a lawyer that liked to tout how he was a member of Mensa, over and over.

This guy was a control freak of the highest order, and micro-managed everyone from his VP to the people who answered the phones. He required everyone in the company... everyone... to submit a daily log of what he/she did during the day, complete with how much time they spent doing each task, so he could hold it against you later (usually the very next day).

I got on his bad side immediately because I squeezed an extra $2,000 in salary negotiations from him (the job paid less than $40,000). So, he spent the next 6 months trying to prove to himself and me why I wan't worth that extra $2,000.

He threatened to fire me because I did a freelance job in a completely unrelated field from our business for like, $75, on a weekend. Citing my greed as the reason. "Don't I pay you enough?"

This guy was a trip. I was working there when September 11, 2001 hit. Right as the second tower fell, he told everyone clustered around the TV, there's nothing you can do about any of this... let's get back to work!

Seriously, when this guy dies... and it will likely be very soon... I'm probably going to take a dump on his grave. To call him completely despicable human being does a disservice to the despicable.

I had a boss that myself, him, and the project manager implemented a schedule for me to work on site (consulting work). I follow said sechdule to the letter. I showed up for work one Monday, and he tells me I have been reported to HR for not showing up to work the past few weeks. I was like "wtf?" Luckily I saved all the emails detailing the process, and turned those over to HR. Never heard from them again.

FYI, I learned the hard way, you have a recording app on your smart phones. When you are asked into your boss' office, record the conversation. It can and will save your arse.

I once worked for a guy who was very near to being an idiot savant. He had amazing recall of intricate wiring schemes that he had his hands on from 30 years prior. Belittled everyone in our group by finding something wrong with almost everything we did. I worked under his direct supervision for about 5 years before he could consistently call me by my name. It was a joyous day when that old bastard retired.
