How can you think NOLA is one of the best cities in the country? It can't be the economy, it can't be the weather, it can't be the cleanliness, it can't be the residents, and it can't be the lack of crime. I'm from the metro area by the way so this is not an outsiders opinion

Yes, it's the weather!

Readers rated it. Probably a bunch of people who have never been there and voted based on what they've heard through the years.

I love New Orleans, but it has a lot of problems and isn't even #4 in the south right now.

When I'm retired, I'm headed to Colorado or Montana from July through September every year,
Nola during the summer sucks for outside activities and not a whole lot is going on compared to the rest of the year.

The ranking is for tourism, not to live there.

Glad we have a few people capable of reading

We all know the best city to live in America. You know, the one with all the fit, educated, wealthy, liberal, white folks who shred mountains, travel, and don't get married and have kids at 24. Boulder mother fricking Colorado

I know tons of white college educated ppl that love New Orleans dearly (including myself) and found success there. I couldn't find a good job right after college so I had to move back up to Chicago.... otherwise I'd still be living it up in Nola still. Wonderful city!

Lived there for a year in 2011

Does this not sum up most of the jackasses telling actual New Orleans residents how they ought to be living in a city they were born and raised in?

What else can you tell us about our city, tourist?

I like Boulder and all, but I'd be happy to see it burn to the ground if it meant you were in the flames.

I guess it depends on how you view your data.

Crime data can be interpreted different ways but crime in New Orleans isn't down despite what Mitch tells you.

Tourism has been up but it is still lower than Pre-Katrina and is now starting to trend down again according to the Louisiana tourist commission. Mostly due to the reported violent crimes in the French Quarter.

Monuments being down is irrelevant even though history is trying to be rewritten.

Housing prices may be higher but saying they have skyrocketed my be a stretch.

What else

The infrastructure of the city is crumbling.

The Port of New Orleans is losing business to other ports along the Gulf Coast.

Other businesses are leaving.

The number of vacant buildings in the French Quarter that are for lease is shockingly high. Even 5 years ago it was hard to find shop space. Now there are a lot of them vacant.

The people of New Orleans don't want to admit that there are problems. I'm not talking about the westbank, Metairie, Kenner and the North Shore. Go look at where the Real Estate values are increasing.

The crooked politicians are getting their share and the city is crumbling. Yet people keep electing the same dumbasses.

2011 numbers and using Wikipedia

>70k

Anyway, this is off topic. If you actually read the article I think the ranking is justified. New Orleans is awesome to visit if you aren't a victim of a violent crime and that doesn't seem to come into play

Charleston ranked the best city in the US 5 years in a row

Although we dropped to number 2 in the world after our first place award last year

I'm a Charleston native, and while I love this city to death and would put it against any in the US, number 2 in the world is fricking comical.
