Has long made some quality bourbon so not surprised.

I’m a Basil Hayden girl myself.

I’ll take Very Old Barton 100 proof over Old Bardstown every time and it’s under $20

VOB is the best. I love that stuff. Used to be able to get it local here for $14 a bottle. Can't find it anymore.

Willet was a very polarizing, people either seem to love it or absolutely hate it

Willett rye is the most variable rye I have ever had in my life. I have bought tons of bottles of it and some of it is very good and some of it is very bad. Crazy how different it can be.

Nope, but we were a part of the earliest days of bourbon distilling in KY. Bourbon business prior to the 1980's was small and local. Everybody knew everybody. Where Woodford Reserve is now was the ruins of an old distillery, and if you know the area, you know where the pipe is that still pours out the natural spring water that make Kentucky bourbon what it was.

I think that harkens back to the Thompson's who I think were kin to the Willetts. If my memory is correct they sold out in the 1980's maybe and the 2 kids lived in Louisville. Sadly, one has since passed, but I think the other kid still lives in one of those older neighborhoods near Doll's (if it is still going).

I think they are now owned by giant Sazerac out of NOLA.

Thanks for the link, now I feel really old as she is not young. Probably her grandparents and great grandparents generation that was more my age. They had the lovely house within walking distance of "My Old Kentucky Home". and the space in-between is now a subdivision I think.

If you are old enough to remember Foster Brooks, he was a guest of the Willets when he hosted his golf tournament.

For the price, Old Bardstown was hard to beat. Bought it by the case for parties and events.
