Here are the real reasons why Mondo Duplantis competes for Sweden.
1. He's a citizen of Sweden and the United States. His mother is from Sweden. His Swedish grandparents don't even speak English. Despite lies and misinformation on social media that suggest Sweden paid Duplantis and fast-tracked his citizenship, the fact is, Duplantis has been a citizen of Sweden since his birth.
2. By competing for Sweden, Duplantis was able to start competing in pole vaulting at a younger age. Sweden does not have the same age restrictions on competing at the highest levels of the sport. The United States does.
3. As it pertains to the Olympics, Sweden selects their Olympians on the totality of their performance over several years, rather than an all-or-nothing Olympic trial.
4. It's more lucrative financially. Pole vaulting is popular in Sweden. It is not a mainstream sport in the United States. Mondo Duplantis is a national superstar in Sweden, viewed with the same regard by Swedes as the country's best soccer players. He was the 2020 World Athletics Male Athlete of the Year and is estimated to be worth millions.
5. Sweden offered to let Mondo's father Greg Duplantis, a former world-class pole vaulter himself, coach him on the Swedish team. The same offer was not made by the U.S. team. Mondo is still coached today by his father Greg, and mother Helena.
This is the main factor why he chose Sweden

pole vaulting is the one event where weather can really have an impact at the olympic trials
since the damn thing is in Oregon every year where rain can play a factor it would suck to lose out on the olympics every four years if you do not qualify
maybe the americans should note that the best vaulter in the history of the game doesn't need a stupid trials to qualify for his sport
and yes, the top pole vaulter stands to make a lot more money in Europe where the USA could care less about pole vaulting except every 4 years at the olympics

So now we're attacking his father? He's been coaching his sons since their early ages & is highly respected. You've been coaching your son for 15+ years & now your son is in position to take his talents to the highest level, you're not going to do all you can do to continue coaching him? Money was not an issue for his dad. And Mondo was going back & forth to Sweden ever since he was a kid, staying with his grandparents. If it was all about money, why did he go to LSU for his freshman year? To be on campus with his brother, he lost out on a lot of money.

Dude was born and raised here. He's American. No amount of family trips to Sweden changes that. He didn't represent his country because the US didn't put his Dad on the payroll. That's bullshite. He wants to compete for Sweden? Great, but don't give the traitor any TV time.
Posted on 8/6/24 at 11:25 am to Keltic Tiger
Short answer for me is the dude is winning. I'm not going to be jealous, I'm just a rube that loves America and couldn't imagine competing against my home country. He can, and he's kicking butt along the way.

Y’all be like “frick that dude, he a traitor” but none of you toolbags can name the top three pole vaulters in the world and will miss the Olympics entirely if the fish are biting,
And someone tell that Chrxis dude you dummies are starting Olympic threads on the OT again. You irresponsible bastards are gonna get someone hurt with this shite.

He is from Mowata so there is an 80% chance his last name is Frey. They are of German descent so I doubt there is any relation. I think he is just a prick that likes to argue.
Posted on 8/6/24 at 11:50 am to MoWataTiger
Nobody is necessarily attacking his dad. But we can all lookup internet articles and copy and paste like you are doing. But this makes it pretty obvious what the main factor was. Sweden was willing to put his dad on payroll. America was not
quote:
Younger brother Mondo originally wanted to stick with Team USA. Then the Swedish youth coach Jonas Anshelm upped the ante by offering Greg a job for the national track and field team. A couple of weeks later, Mondo's dad changed Armand's trajectory: “We're on. We'll go for Sweden.”

first I'm shannon from the plaza and now I'm related to the duplantis family? What a lazy argument for being wrong.
I'm just educated on certain subjects and hate stupid people starting the same threads every year
