It looks to me like the baby was holding its breath at the “top” of the cry and the priest thought it stopped breathing.

I did not see a lot of panic over it in the parents reaction.

Should not have happened and something I have never seen before but I think you are making much about nothing.

You can essentially see it play out on the father's face. He's initially shocked by what he did, but instead of reaching out and grabbing his son away from the a-hole that just hit him in the head, he waited because the a-hole who just hit his son in the head is magical.

I'm glad the father's human instincts kicked in eventually, but shouldn't it have done so right after another man slapped his baby in the face right in front of him? Why should the costume the man was wearing saved him from what would have happened without it?
