If you want to be close to work and the bars. Midtown if you dont want to be directly downtown. Plenty of rentals in midtown in your budget. Eastern Shore commute will be hell every day

I’m starting a new job in Mobile after New Years and I am looking for advice on where to live. Either going to commute from Fairhope or find somewhere in Mobile.

I'd look at the midtown area. I work at the ship yards and i can get to work pretty quickly in the mornings.

one con about midtown I'd say is the amount of rain it seems to get. The water can get pretty high on most streets i'd guess. This might not even be a big deal for you just sort of fyi

I agree that the area around midtown is a good idea. The drive from Spanish Fort/Daphne ain't bad, but fairhope is much worse. If you go west of Mobile, look at the Dawes/Irvington/Theodore area and find one of the better places.

Look in midtown, Church Street and Oakleigh Garden District.

I've lived in Midtown for 5 years now. Love it.

What are your go to bars in Mobile?

I'd highly recommend the Oakleigh Garden District if you're going to be working downtown. If you're younger it's obviously close to all the downtown bars as well. If you're wanting to be close to the action you'll get bored pretty quickly in Fairhope. Ignore all these West Mobile recommendations unless you enjoy an endless landscape of strip malls.

Spring Hill is another great area, but I don;t know if you'll get in there w/ only $1500/month.

It would be cutting it close, but IMO Spring Hill is by far the nicest part of Mobile.
