Being in a structured environment working for someone else is easier for me.
So it has been imperative to structure my environment for myself.
The biggest problem in having a home office is the wife saying, "I just need 5 minutes." Which is almost always a lie. Operating capital has to be enough to survive for a year with little to no income was something an uncle told me decades ago. That was the way he did it going from being a partner to solo.

I have told one to frick off. He was taking up too much of my time without resulting in sales. It kept happening over and over. He is a perpetual whiner from Chicago and chemical engineer/lawyer who made money on green energy type projects then got screwed out of millions in Missouri (by farmers) and California by local weed head politicians/public.

You only get one life, and it goes by rather quickly. At the end of your life would you rather be thinking, “I should have dared”, or “I wish I hadn’t lost a few bucks daring”? And that latter choice includes the possibility of success.

The worst potential customer. Better to be told up front that he’d never buy from you.

man....you sound like the issue. you dont really make that much and you have hinted at you havent been doing accounting very long.....
1) its a lot tougher than you think. with what you make, you arent going to have a bunch of wiggle room
2) if you can handle working for someone than how are you going to open a service type business where half the business is getting new clients aka sales?
sounds like you have personality issues where you dont do well having someone over you and working with others....well starting your own business is even more of that to make it successful

The hardest thing is getting clients. That’s why rainmakers get paid so well.

I made money with him in the beginning, then it began to fall as his biz deals got phucked. It got bad over little things that I wasn't going to make much and he began trying to get terms by having his guy showing up with 50% and saying he would pay the balance in 30 days. Phuck that, it means I'm out of pocket financing him.

I'll sell you my business

Employing people is somewhat a giant baby sitting service. Personalities, conflicts and trying to create a good company culture is challenging….
If you’re going to employ people, go in eyes wide open…..
This is the best advice so far. If it wasn't for people, it wouldn't be nearly as difficult. Think about how you now get upset when you are "micro-managed". Now, be prepared to have your employees feel the same way, even if you don't think it's the case.
The hardest part about owning a business is getting the people who work for you to do what you want them to do. I can't overstate this enough.

That’s good advice.
Kinda makes me want to start my own thing even more.

This is the key.
I'm self employed and I am lucky enough to have 3-4 clients that have kept me almost 100% billable for 7 years.
I keep a rainy day fund to cover about 6 months of no income.
The things I like best about being self employed:
- No boss
- No performance review
- No HR
- Tax write-offs
- Obviously flex hours.
I actually work harder / more hours since I've been self employed. I want to keep my clients happy and have them keep feeding me work,

I spent my career “in business for myself “…employed 1000s….love engaging people and building things…but the people’s challenges were the most difficult, by far…

If hanging out your own shingle is a front burner thing for you, do it. You’re young enough to regroup should your own venture not pan out like you’d hoped. I’ll say one thing for certain, if you don’t pursue your own venture and it’s what you feel you’re being led to do, you’ll kick yourself in the a$$ from now until death. One can “what if” yourself to death.

Do it now before you have kids and while you have a supportive wife. You are young enough that if it doesn’t work out you can hire back on somewhere else.
If you go for it you better give it 110%. If you half arse it then you will fail and fail miserably and look like a fool to your wife and friends and family.
At the end of the day only you can answer this question.

What kind of business? You mentioned unloading trucks in previous jobs.

I'd like nothing more than to work a normal job and be happy. But I can't. And not in the "work sucks" way. It's more of "My body is rejecting this and I need to change my situation."
Same... but my reason is definitely "work sucks"
The most demanding job I ever had was being in the Navy. Idk if it's a "grass is greener" situation but I'd give anything to go back to those days. I actually felt like I did shite that mattered and the people were awesome. I haven’t found anything close in civilian life.

why are you angry? i wasnt being mean?
you literally make under 100k and self admitted to not being able to stay at a job more than 2-3 years...
want my expert opinion? you sound like a god damn pussy who gets pissed off at the drop of a hat and will fricking fail because he doesnt understand that even in things like accounting....its a service to other people so the ability to sell is your #1 asset and frankly....your personality and outlook suck for that.
my advice...stop being a pussy, learn the business side of things then open your own shop if you want.
