I apologize. I assumed since you had posted before he had made that statement, you had posted after he made that statement, and you were participating in the discussion that you were paying attention, I should have known better.

So limit the amount that they love each other?

The more you spend, the more you love.

I forget this is the OT and no one has to live on a budget here.

Yep. Shared memories keep couples together much better than jewelry.

I'm afraid she'll follow some trend of the month, and get some gaudy cluster around it or saphire accents. Whats wrong with the simple solitaire look?

She’s materialistic if she has preferences, but it’s fine if you do? This thread is weird. I’ve never seen a man care this much about women’s jewelry.

When she's paying for it, of course I don't

Damn, I take the time and effort to say congrats and you don't acknowledge it?

This is the kind of thing that ruins marriages. This and small rings...

We're through.

When he first gave it to me, I questioned him if he could afford it and should get something smaller. Now, 14 years later (I think) I still love it. It’s nothing fancy or over the top, but I love that he picked it out for me.

Who picks what y’all have for dinner?

Funny, men don’t care about what their wedding band costs, yet it means essentially the same thing. The ring is a sign a love and commitment, to a person you love and are supposed to devote yourself to till you die. It isn’t a piece of fricking jewelry, like some earrings. What it looks like is of zero consequence. And really, save the money for something that actually matters, like paying off bills, a down payment, etc.

You mean engagement ring or wedding ring?

Cause they are two separate things.

My husband and I had been dating for 4 years....we talked about marriage and knew we were on the same page. At the time he made much less than me so I knew he didn't have a large budget for a ring and I didn't care. I was 33 and wanted us to start a life together and get married. I didn't need an expensive ring.

We looked at rings together so I could show him what I liked. Picked out a diamond together and a setting to go with it. Without me knowing he went back the next day to finalize the purchase and had the ring for a month hidden at our house before he proposed. After we were engaged we went back to look for wedding bands to match the ring. Found one that matches perfectly and it is now joined with my engagement ring as one ring.

I still love my ring. And glad we looked together for it. I personally hate solitaire type rings (have always personally found them really ugly all my life). Same thing with certain settings. Because I'm picky...best bet is for me to pick out a setting I love. After all...I'm wearing it everyday the rest of my life.

Would you say "yes, I will marry you, but return this and let's pick a piece with cubic zirconium, and lets invest the money instead?"

All I know is it’s silver and plain. My finger hasn’t fallen off or turned green in 17 years so I assume it’s real something. Either white gold or platinum. I honesty have no idea.

I know it’s hard as frick to take off
