My personal call with my own son in the car would be grab the tag number and call the police but don’t confront face to face - and surely disengage from a gun play situation
That doesn’t mean he did anything wrong, but I think I’d rather teach my son about the justice system and the difference between having something too valuable to lose vs having nothing you care about deeply instead of taking the risk of losing him to make a larger immediate stand vs that person
