Hang on, I just sent $4,500 in cash to an address in Asia to pay off my past IRS debt.

This isn't legit ?

They call my mom all the time too. However, I think the fact that it is mostly old people who won’t give up their land line factors into the equation as well. Most people’s cell number is either on a do not call list or harder to obtain.

They've gotten around that with pirated numbers now. I actually called one back and it was some random lady who had no idea what I was talking about. The area code is often the same as either phone or the city you live in to make you more likely to pick it up. The lady I talked too was clearly a black woman from chicago.

They get a call every other week saying it's their grandson, stranded out of town needing money.

My cousins in Lake Charles got a call from someone saying I was in jail and needed their credit card number so I could call my family. I don’t even live in Lake Charles and she’s married so they have a different last name than me. I am the type to potentially be in jail though so it was a good scam, just didn’t work that time.

Yup, same happened to me a couple of days ago.
Called a number back after a missed call. "hello, returning your call, just had a missed call from this number." Old lady was like "no you did not" aggressively, and I thought WTF. Then she followed it up by saying people having calling her back just like that.

And I usually don't do this, but I am expecting certain calls.
