I'd guess that 90% of the undergrad student population lives within 5 miles of campus. Would traffic be bad? yea, but not all that much worse that any other day. It's not like the students are getting on interstate and driving back to New Orleans. Most get in their car and drive 2 miles down burbank.
I remember people having trouble getting to campus when it snowed during finals in December 2008. People just don't know how to drive on icy roads down here.

what about faculty and staff?
Well I figured that justification was about student safety. I doubt too many employer's tell their employees to not bother coming in to work on tue or wed. Why would LSU employees be any different.

It's not, but I guess I would rather take away from Spring Break because I have a lot of money invested during the Mardi Gras holidays
And there are plenty of students with money invested in spring break as well

This is not a good reason. Most people will still have to go to work. Will they sue their employer if they get into a wreck on their way to work?
State agencies were closed on Friday, that's a decent chunk of the working force in BR

have you ever drove on I-10 on a morning LSU has classes? Thousands of LSU students commute from the surrounding parishes.

LSU canceled at noon for Hurricane Ike in 08 because a branch fell on someone.

Last Friday LSU asked only the essential staff to report to work

Yea, I get that, but that, to me is not a very good reason. If you hold class on tue and wed not that many people are showing up anyway. It's not like its a big deal for most students to miss a class or two. If you don't want to go to class then don't go to class, but at least they wouldn't have to worry about making the classes up.

I have seen this relentlessly over the last week. Educate me. What do you do besides general stuff like slow down, more space?

You would be surprised, unless we're talking about critical personnel or whatnot.
The employers aren't doing to to be nice. They're doing it to be practical.

90% may be high, but its a majority by a good bit.

Had Like 200+ wrecks SE LA on Friday

Either way, lsu will piss people off. They can either force people to waste money they've already spent on hotels and condos or have to change all of the end of year schedules for finals and graduation

LSU employees stayed home on Friday. Tuesday will be twice as bad as Friday was.

We have a ton of overpasses and no salt system.
interstate and surface roads.

Well there were no classes last friday so this makes sense. I'm talking about other employers around baton rouge. Are the employers that require their employees to report to work going to be held liable if that employee gets into an accident on the way to work? Not a chance.
