or the existing subfloor , header and door opening is either out of plumb out of level...out of plane. being out of plane is a common issue getting a door to open and close correctly with the right reveals.
Check out DSA (Door Store of America) super nice doors for added curb appeal
the OP is describing more of a side or rear entry door change out.

You know I just googled door prices at Lowes and yea for a nice one it’s about 2500 a door.
Jesus. Surprised robbing doors off of houses isn’t a thing with those prices. Find homes without cameras and break the door jamb, take out a few screws and toss it in a truck. Gone in 2-3 minutes and boom could repaint it, replace door jamb sell it 3/4 price to a local contractor willing to play ball.

I swapped out an exterior door a few years ago. Bought an identical replacement at Home Depot for $200, and used a guy advertising on Craigslist or Facebook for the work. Paid him $200. Entire job done for under $400.
Job was super easy—I just didn’t have the time or energy to deal with it. Guy who did the work was doing it as a side hustle. He would advertise and get several jobs all lined up for his off day. At $200 apiece and under 2 hours of work, he was making decent money.
FWIW, I worked on a lawsuit against WW a few years back. They had done the windows in a client’s old house, and she wasn’t happy with how the job turned out. I think that was when they were doing the “any window $200” thing, and she had about 40 windows (so $8,000). I remember thinking that their work and product appeared to be at the low end of the quality scale, but in all honesty, I was impressed they could do that much work at that rate. We went back and forth in the litigation until the client died, so never any resolution.

I think (when I have time) one of my projects is to build a wrought iron door for my house. I love the look of them but they are expensive as hell. I know I can build it and already have the tools needed. I just need the time to do it.
That or I am going to build a pivot door that might be faster for me to build.
I currently have a door with two sidelights so I have 60" to work with without reframing and/or redoing stucco.
ETA: Pivot doors are pretty cool

Exactly, your guys have experience. But doing a door is by no means "easy". Painting is easy. Patching drywall holes is easy. Replacing a recessed light is easy.
Replacing a door is not easy. Its not complicated, but it certainly takes some handyman experience. Its not just putting the door casing in the hole and nailing it in. Not to mention a lot of exterior doors are heavy as hell.
I would never tell someone that has never done a door before and has very little carpenter type of experience its "easy".

Look at the condition of this window when it was delivered on a job. Guy waited 4 months for these windows.

That's what happens when you deal with 3/4" glass.
