You may wear highheels away from work, but they really have no place in the standard work environment as they bring a host of issues:

Employee safety- unnecessary hazzard, sprained ankle, trip hazzard
Long-term use health risk-bunions, knee and back issues from use
higher insurance due to health claims
loss productivity at work, sick days, missed time
increased risk of sexual harassment claims
Essentially, the style was born at a time when women would only tend to wear them for certain occasions/events. But as women started working office jobs, they tended to wear them for long hours every day for years. We can easily imagine the twisted ankle or a trip/fall while wearing heels, but it has more to do with the effects of longer teem use.

Lower Back Pain
Sore Calves
Foot Pain
Ankle Sprains
Awkward Spinal Curve
Constricts Blood Vessels
Crooked Feet
Weakens Ligaments
Knee Pain
Hyperextension In Toes
All of these are not only unnecessary burdens to the employee, but also the overall health care system.

In the US, there are over 150,000 bunion surgeries performed annually at a cost of approximately $14,000 per patient which is over a $2 Billion/Year...every year. That's just the cost of the surgery and doesn't account for all the missed time, sick days before and after, etc.

Lastly, the purpose of elongation of the legs for sex appeal, really has no place anymore in the workplace. The added risk of unnecessary sexualization lends itself to higher risk of HR issues, lawsuits and whatnot.

While some women may not have issues, allowing them in the workplace creates an environment where other women must "compete" or match styles with the other women in the office whose bodies may not be able to handle prolonged use.

It's a vestige of the era from which they were born, and people shouldn't feel the need to wear them. This starts with employee safety where someone else has a say over what you are allowed to wear, or OSHA can step in if it were ever mandated.

I’m at the beach. The ocean keeps beating me up. I’m currently hiding from the sun like a vampire. And... I’m sans makeup!!! :gasp:

Using the Egyptians and Romans as an example is barking up the wrong tree. They were flaming homosexuals.
